ONLY the carreir to which it is locked can unlock it (if they offer that servce).

You would have to contact the carrier and ask if they offer this service.

Ask whomever sold you the iphone who the carrier is.

You can try calling Apple Care. They may be able to tell you what carrier it's locked to.

If it is from the UK, you may face an additional hurdle. From reports here and elsewhere, some of the UK carriers, even though they do offer unlocking, will ONLY unlock phones for current customers. That is, if you don't have an active account with them, they will not unlock your phone.

"Current customers" can and often does include a PAYG customer .There is sometimes a time scale and always a charge

The iPhone has to be active on the carrier's UK network with a number of calls and this does not include roaming.

So finding the carrier is only the first hurdle

In effect the user has to be in the UK using the iPhone

That is not the point

This seem an Apple specific issue. I have used many cell phones in the past without tis problem. I guess its bound for Apple to go down the drain in the end. This is the natural cycle of al success companies. Still very anoing and justifing the eventual fall of Apple.

got the same issue but iphone4 was bought from switzerland and now unable to use in pakistan.... carrier was orange

So call Orange only they can authorise and arrange an unlock

I have contacted AT&T for carrier unlock and got confirmation that it is unlocked now. I followed instruction and updated Iphone but it is still locked.

AT&T forwarded me to Apple support - please let me know how to proceed?

ONLY AT&T can assiste you in resolving this. Have you actually restored the phone since getting the notification that the unlock was complete?

Was the phone previously unlocked using some other method?

yes, I have restored the phone trough Itunes, nothing is changed it always asking for a carrier sim card.

Before the phone has been used with GEVEY sim and now as time has passed wanted to make proper unlock but have been upgraded to a new 5.1.1 (or restore to be frank) and can not use it as a phone anymore.

I have restored due to a AT&T notification that it was unlocked.

You had to hack your phone to make it work. Sometimes hacking cannot be reveresed. Talk to the makes of GEVEY on how to resolve.
