Why will my sony hedphones not work on my ipad?

No one here is a mind reader or has a crystal ball. We have no idea why it does not work.
How about actually telling us a lot more information and maybe we can help figure out why it does not work. Model of Sony headphones would be a good start, they make dozens of models. What have you tried with the iPad that has not worked?
Does it have the good plug in and is your sound on or switched of by the switch botton

The sound is switched on. The internal speakers are working but when I plug the headphones in there is no sound at all. The headphones work with other devices and other headphones work on my ipad. I have checked for compatability and apparently they are compatable with the ipad. They are sony noise cancelling headphones MDR-NC7. I have noticed the rings on the jack are green, on other headphones that work rings are black. Would that make a difference?
Have you checked to make sure the batteries are working in your headphones? Maybe try replacing them and check it out again.....
Ha, they work! I have to go into an audiobook first, they work perfectly, then switch to music from there. Bizarre!
