How do I setup Multi Angle tracks to avoid Incompatible GOP?

I've been reading through some of the previous threads in an attempt to figure out how to set up my mult-angle tracks in FCP so I don't get the "Incompatible GOP structure" message in DVD Studio Pro. But nothing I do seems to work. Is there a way to actually do this without getting that error message?

yes, I tried making "self-contained" movie files.

My recent (partial) multi-angle project is showing the video is off by 6 frames when I line it up to the original chapter marker. I am able to slide back the multi angle tracks to line it up to the correct video frame but DVDSP will not Build the file saying that it is "missing marker for angle situation" & I cannot place a marker exactly where the encoded partial multi angle starts.

I do have chapter markers placed in FCP. My partial angle starts at a chapter marker which is at the end of a cross dissolve. I used to place the chapter markers at the beginning of the cross dissolves but with the same result.

When I place the encoded partial angle in DVDSP, I get the Incompatible GOP error message and notice that the video is off by 6 frames.

I slid the partial angle backward 6 frames to line it up but then I get the Missing Marker error message in DVDSP.

I tried to re-place chapter markers in DVDSP but it does not want to place them in the appropriate areas of the video (during a black out) I am assuming because of the GOP structure.

I just want to know how to setup video in FCP so that when I import whatever video file I need to import into DVDSP I won't get an Incompatible GOP error message. I am assuming there is a correct method for creating and importing partial angle tracks in DVDSP but the books and help files do not seem to specify, that I have found.

It'd be nice if the creators of these programs would frequent these forums and help us out a bit.

I think I may have a solution for those who still might be encountering the Incompatible GOP message. I was finally able to create a partial multiple angle project without getting that message.

Here's what helped...

the section of your main track for the multi-angle duration & the multi-angle tracks need to have the same edit points, dissolve lengths, etc, if it doesn't, then you will need to export each track to a self-contained file and then re-insert into FCP.

if your multi-angle is completely between 2 chapter markers, set your out point 1 frame before the ending chapter marker and then export each angle to compressor

NO...Here's a rundown:

  • With multi-angle tracks, all streams must be the same length. With mixed-angle tracks, all alternate streams in each mixed-angle section must be the same length.
  • All streams must have the same resolution and frame rate.
  • The length and pattern of GOPs (Group of Pictures) must be the same for all streams (angles). If you are not using the integrated MPEG encoder, use an encoder that allows you to turn scene detection off.
  • All GOPs should be closed. You will not be able to cleanly switch between the streams if you use open GOPs.
  • Use a CBR encode

Have Googled all the info a read carefully?
