Lion fails to repair disk permission

During my regular maintenance, I ran "verify disk permissions" on Disk Utility recently and discovered 16 items on the list to be repaired. I subsequently ran "repair disk permissions" and saw that every single one of them were repaired excluding the "Warning: SUID..." thing which is expectable. Everything went as normal and there was no irregularity in the process, except the same items reappeared again on the list when I re-ran the "verify disk permission".

I repeated the process a few more times - nothing changed.

I tried to do it via the recovery partition - the result is the same

I did the process manually via Terminal - still took me nowhere.

I wonder if anybody has experienced similar problems and knows the solutions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Carolyn, thanks again for the link. Very interesting and useful read 🙂

I am running version 10.7 on 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 12GB ram. The free space on my startup disk is around 400GB. It shouldn't be a problem on that side.

The sluggishness fluctuates and but is noticeable. Sometime it happens when I am about to begin installing a new update of a third party application or in the middle of copying and pasting object between applications.

@pedro31787 Thanks for your comment. I was just saying that I had no antivirus related software installed while this thing took place.

Check the startup disk just in case.

Launch Disk Utility

Select the startup disk in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.

Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)

Boot from your install disc if necessary to make repairs.

In case you aren't aware, your Mac can run maintenance tasks for you if you leave your Mac on over night (not in Sleep mode). Once monthly is all that's needed.

Repairing permissions is important do not be misled.

By the way I was misled by Apple Japan they said that Teqtool deluxe on Apple care DVD does not work if lion is installed, paradoxically lion repair permissions also does not work if SnowLeopard is installed on another volume and even using bundle install DVD does not work !

The directory is corrupt and like society we must fix corruption otherwise we have many problems.

How?

1 disable Vile fault and fire wall.

2 restart safe mode wait let sleep 1 day, over night reboot using DVD

Go to system profiler on DVD

Check power on self -test and diagnostics if it is ok

3 shut down

4 restart option DVD again

5. Repair permissions

6 if still corrupt re install OS

Do not enable Vile Fault or Fire Wall when updating first after clean install.

For Lion go to Recovery HD press options
