10.5 upgrade problems

I have a G5 tower that was running 10.4.11

Decided to upgrade to 10.5

all seemed to work until the desktop comes up, then I get the spinning ball and spotlight indexing notice.

The indexing has been going for 10 hours, It has everything else locked down. Do have a dot in the spy glass. I have around 250 GB of data on the drive.

Is this normal to take so long, if not what can I do to fix this.

Thanks in advance for your help

Randy

Spotlight can take days, and will use every ounce of CPU that it can take.

Open System Preferences/Spotlight/Privacy and move your hard drive to the Privacy list.

Spotlight processes will cease, but so will searchability.

If you wish to have Spotlight available, let the machine run over night, returning the drive to Privacy when you need to get some work done.....

At least until the bulk of the indexing is done.
