Software Update will not recognize an already installed update.

I heard Apple released HP Printer Software Update version 2.7 so I decided to go download it.

When I clicked Software Update, it said I had no new software to install. So I plugged in my printer (HP Deskjet 3050 - J610a) and checked again and HP Printer Software Update was listed to download. So I clicked Install 1 Item and it successfully downloaded it and installed it. It then shows this screen:

User uploaded file

But then if I go check for updates again, it will list HP Printer Software Update again as if I never installed it.

And if I go to check my software update history in System Preferences, it lists that I have installed it; in fact, I've installed it 6 times.

Anyone else experiencing this or know any solutions?

Thanks!

I have had that same HP thing listed in Software Update. I downloaded and installed it and it said it installed successfully. Then I noticed that every time after that I check Software Update it has that same update listed and I download it every time and each time it says it installed successfully. Why isn't it removing itself from Software Update. I thought when you installed an updated and it stayed installed then it would no longer show in Software Update. I am afraid to look at Software Update to see if new updates are available since it might say that it installed successfully, but keep showing in Software Update.

I just talked to HP and they said:

This [version 2.7] is the update for older version of Mac 10.6, not for the Mac 10.7 lion

You need to install the latest driver for Mac lion, version 12.13.17

That update [version 2.7] is showing, because you have Updated the Mac from 10.6 to 10.7

These are the steps HP walked me through:

Make sure the printer is turned on and connected at all times.

Delete the printer from your Mac via System Preferences --> Print & Scan.

Run HP Uninstaller and hold control, option, and command then click on Uninstall and click yes uninstall all HP software.

Download and install the latest software and driver from hp.com, version 12.13.17.

Open Software Update and install HP Printer Software Update, version 2.7, 22.9 MB.

Restart the computer.

Check Software Update again. This time, install HP Printer Software Update, version 2.7, 5.8 MB.

Restart the computer.

Then they said you should go to System Preferences, Print & Scan, and click Options & Supplies and make sure the Driver Version displays the latest version (either 12.13.17 or 2.7?), not 1.5.0.

In my case, it still listed 1.5.0. And when I check Software Update, it still lists HP Printer Software Update, version 2.7, 5.8 MB, no matter how many times I download and install it.

HP finally gave up and told me to contact Apple support if I think it's a problem, since my printer (HP Deskjet 3050 - J610a) does print just fine.

Gabo-Arg,

I was also told by Apple that it was an update for those that use Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) and if you had Snow Leopard on your system and then upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) it still saw Snow Leopard on the system for some reason. If you did a clean install and installed Mac OS X 10.7 without 10.6 on the system then you wouldn't have this issue.

this is not true. this mac mini that i just bought 10 days ago came preloaded with lion. this is also my first mac. I have had the hp printer software update to 2.7 for a few days now. i have tried installing it under different users, rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling the printer. downloaded the drivers for it from the net and tried using the drivers right from apple. All have resulted in the same thing, the update appears and does not actually apply itself after downloading and installing it.

My printer does in fact work, but i do not like having updates showing that i can not actually update, just a bit annoying.

Also i read that 10.7.2 is OTW. the beta was released to devs not too long ago so it should be out soon from what i have read and seen.

I have this message in my Mac:

Sep 20 19:36:21 Joses-MacBook-Pro hidemyipdaemon[3525]: Erorr when reading config file

Sep 20 19:36:21 Joses-MacBook-Pro com.apple.launchd[1] (hidemyipdaemon[3525]): Exited with code: 1

Any solution?
