ipod touch 2nd gen. built-in speaker not working. help please.

i have the iPod Touch 2nd Generation. everything was working fine up until recently. i plugged it into the computer, did the usual (add songs). when i ejected the iPod, i noticed the next morning that it wasnt making any sounds at all. now whenever i try to play music, the built-in speaker makes no sound, but shows that the track is playing.

when i try to play music, it shows the top bar(track number/title, shuffle and repeat button). but at the bottom, the bar only shows the Rewind, Play, and Fast Forward buttons, it does not show the Volume Control Bar. but if i connect it to a headset or some other speaker device, the volume control bar appears again, and then disappears every time i disconnect it.

even when i try to press the manual volume control buttons on the side of the iPod, the indicator that the volume is going up or down doesnt even show.

would someone please help me with this?

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:

- Reset:

Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home

button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Restore the iPod from backup

- Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod

- Do headphones work?

You may havea problem with he headphone jack or another component. An appointment at the Genius Bar might be helpful.

yeah ive resetted the thing quite a few times now, and still no change.

im a bit hesitant on restoring to factory settings because i have alot of important stuff held in it and no trustworthy computer or "memory device" to put my stuff into. and also its jailbroken (my friend did it).

and yes headphones work (I AM ALSO HAVING THE PROBLEM OF ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE HEADPHONES WORK BUT THE HEADPHONES WORK PERFECTLY, SO I MAY TRY TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY DEBRIS IN THE JACK)
