I recently got MacBook Air 13''. I bought the VGA cable also.
Yesterday I had a presentation and had connected my MBA to Epson projector.
You could see everything, but when I wanted to start the presentation in keynote, it would only start on my computer but would not be visible on the projector. So, I had to go through ppt....
I've the same issuers.
Just to share my experiences:
vga to monitors: works
vga to new beamers: works.
vga to 90% of all other projectors: does not work.
I am using my mbair a lot for presentations.
I switches from the 2010 modell to the 2011 model. the former one worked perfectly - the new one with win7, bootcamp and the newest drivers does not.
the most disappointing part on that is that there is no solution provided by apple.
In that Macbook Pro Thread I found a possible solution: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005AT2KTK/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=phlinux- 20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=B005AT2KTK
Buy an active vga adapter from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005AT2KTK/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=phlinux- 20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=B005AT2KTK.
So the only thing to solve is how to get the adapter from us to europe.
I am tired to open support tickets and play ping pong between apple, microsoft and intel.
Are there any european's here who also need that adapter and have any ideas how to get it?
I was having problems with some projects on my 2011 mac air using a vga extender on windows 7 64bit bootcamp. I tried something similar to above and it started working.
1. connect to the project you want and make sure it is on.
2. Go to your desktop and right click to get to graphics options
3. Then go to "output to" then "clone display".
4. Select something (I'm not sure what it all means), but I randomly choose options until one worked for me. In my case build in display + digital display.
MBA 2011, Boot Camp, Windows 7, thunderbolt to VGA
My problems are severe. I nowadays bring an extra projector to my customers. 8 out of 10 projectors won't work. The ones that do work seems to be the older ones.
I have installed all Windows 7 update from Microsoft, including 2 optional updates for the graphics. It made my MBA to easily find my external sreen without unplugging/plugging the adapter. I thought my projector problems would be solved to, but no.
I bougth a no name adapter at www.kjell.com an eureka, one of the projectors that never worked before now worked! I thougt again my problems would be solved, but the next day I run into yet another projector that didn't work.
I am now thinking on installing Parallells just to get the vga signal from the mac OS, but this incease the complexity of my solution and I don't really like it.
Hi Frustrated Projector uses.
I have seen from some of the discussions that the problem with projecting seems to be confined to Windows operating off a MAC and MAC are not keen to help because they don't support Windows.
I would venture to say that this problem even applies to the MAC itself. It's a hit and miss affair if the projector works of not. Sometines I get it to work on the Microsoft and sometimes on the Apple.
I hate to say it, but I'm sorry I bought the Apple. This was my main motivation and it has been a disaster!
guys, i had the same troubles, but for me it seems to be solved!
Download the latest driver for Intel HD 3000 graphic and everything works right after pluging in the projector.
Here is the link http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphi cs&ProductLine=Processor+graphics&ProductProduct=2nd+Generation+Intel®+Core™+Pro cessors+with+Intel®+HD+Graphics+3000%2f2000&ProdId=3319&LineId=3310&FamilyId=39
The driver update solved my problem to.
Same issue : MBA 2011, W7-64b thru bootcamp, original thunderbolt to VGA Adapter, ceiling-mounted Toshee VP, nothing worked. And just when I was about to buy an VGA MUX or amplif (considering the lenngth of the cable as the main issue), i found this thread and everything works fine. The switching is done automatically when I connect the adapter, and the resolution adjustes itself to 1024x768 making the projection to start immediatly.
Thank you partas, thank you marcushirt.
I've been experiencing trouble with the same issue, only I'm setting up a projector connection from a mac mini to a wireless box which transmits the signal to another box and then down to the projector (Epson). I couldn't use the thunderbolt port to transmit the Windows 7 image, but I could with Lion... So I grabbed a VGA to USB adapter and installed the driver software on Windows 7 and BAM it worked. So I would suggest going out and picking up a VGA to USB adapter.
Only problem I have now is that I can't get the audio to sync up. Problems, problems.
Well, I updated my MBA and the new driver solved almost all of the issues. I say almost all as it still doesn't like running PowerPoint decks in presentation mode that have embedded videos' but I can live with that small thing.
This week I was at a client with one of my team doing a demonstration, using his MBA which still had the old driver. Of course the projector wouldn't work. Searched for this thread, downloaded the new driver and bingo. Worked and saved our bacon.
