Using Airplay with My mac and Apple TV

How in the world can I set up my apple tv to do exactly what my mac does at the same time as it was connected to a HDMI cable!!! PLease help!!! I want to airplay!!! I dont even see the option on my iphone to air play my photos and videos!!! like on the commerical!!!!!

You can't airplay on a Mac outside of iTunes. The Mac must be on and running iTunes as well. Make sure Airplay is enabled on ATV. Make sure your iPhone is on wifi and on the same network.

I'm assuming you have the new model and not the 1st generation Apple TV?
