how do I import HD video from my camera using an HDMI cable?

I'm trying to Import video at 1080/60fps from my JVC everio GZ-Hm440BU into my macbook pro. I bought the HDMI cable and the mini adaptors to import at a higher resolution but the macbook wont even acknowledge that something is there.......... Any tips to how to get my laptop to read it? Thanks....

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I don't believe that you can import video using an HDMI cable, though I could be wrong. The HDMI cable connects to the display output (via an adapter), and that port is output only. That is, its purpose is to output a video signal from the Mac to a display of some kind. Typically, digital video cameras will have a way to connect via either USB or FireWire for transferring data to the computer.

Thanks guys. Yeah I figured the JVC support was wrong. She told me if I used an HDMI cable the video transfer would up convert from 30fps to 60fps automatically. The usb works but only lets me import the videos at 30fps or some reason. Even at my highest quality seting on my camera. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Thanks guys, I appreciate it. You saved me loads of time!

That's not the case at all. There is no concept of 'fps' when transferring via USB because what you're transferring is the raw data file itself, not a rendered/decoded image.

If the resulting video is 30fps when you import it that's either because the video was recorded at that rate, or that's what your import options are set to.
