Straight out of the box brand new iPod DOES NOT WORK!!!

K, I've tried everything. I just bought this new iPod today. I'm an iPod user since the first generation iPods. I've never had a single problem with my gen 2 iPod 20gig. I take this one out of the box and it doesn't even work.

I have tried all of the different ways listed to restart, restore, disk mode etc. NOTHING WORKS. I get a black screen (not backlit at all) with the Apple logo. Then, the most I will get is an illuminated non-color screen of the "Sad Mac" icon and the iPod support site address. This has been the only time at all that the back light has even come on. If I plug it in I see the battery icon but no progress. I have tried plugging into the wall and get the same icon. It appears to have some sort of battery charge but does not show signs of charging when plugged in.

I have looked all over and tried tons of suggestions and NOTHING IS WORKING.

It's a black iPod 60gb. HELP!!! THIS *****!!!

Hmmm, that's quite interesting. If nothing has worked, and you are sure that chargin the battery isn't the solution, then I suggest you take it straight back, and hopefully you bought some sort of coverage for it. If not, well then, that *****. I would suggest takin it back and telling them about it. Maybe take it back to the same person you bought it from (that helped you or whatver). Explain the problem and maybe they'll replace it. I don't know what to tell you though, that's the only thing I can think of, I'm sorry to hear. I have a 60GB black as well, but never had problems with it, so far. Good luck Chris!

I had tried this and even left it in for longer. No dice. It's just a lemon. Called Applecare and they concur. So I asked if the kind people at the Apple Store (even though I purchased this from Best Buy in Buffalo and I am in Toronto) would consider swapping it outright. I called the Apple Store and sure enough they were willing. Just got back and got my new one straight out of the box the way it should be. Colour to the screen and everything!

Thanks anyway for the effort with the help.
