How do you select the featured clip in iMovie 09? That is, the clip that is static before you play the movie.

iMovie '08, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

It is the clip that advertises the movie. I am sure you know Facebook. Well, if someone posts a video on your wall you see an image in the video before you play it. That one. If you have selected a poster clip/feature clip it is the clip by which you recognize the movie, other than the name. When you look at videos in YouTube's directory each video has an image. If I save a movie on my desktop, it has an image.

Okay, now we're getting somewhere. I know what you're talking about now. Try this:

  1. Take a screenshot of the frame you want to appear as the 'feature clip'. That's Command + Shift + 4, then draw a border around the video frame. That will save the screenshot to your desktop with a .png extension.
  2. Import your video clip into iTunes.
  3. In the iTunes Movies folder hold down CTRL and click on the video. Choose Get Info.
  4. Click on the Artwork tab, all the way to the right. Click the Load button.
  5. Navigate out to the desktop and choose your screenshot of the video frame and click OK. You should see the new thumbnail immediately.
  6. CTRL click the video in iTunes again and choose Reveal in Finder, and drag your video clip back out to the desktop.

That thumbnail should be permanent
