In TextEdit and in Pages, you can use Superscript to do that. Enter the elements, then select the exponent and choose Superscript from the Format menu, here - Format > Font > Baseline > Superscript.
If you want to place such an item in a message in your browser, format it in TextEdit then copy/paste it into the text message.
