Powermac G4 ADC Display Problem

Hi,

I just bought a 17" Studio (LCD Flat Panel) Display. I was suprised to see that everything is powered by one cable because I though that I needed separate cables. I installed an AGP Graphics Card from another Powermac G4 MDD. The Powermac G4 I installed the card into is a Powermac G4 AGP. So, I plugged the display into the ADC Port of my card and nothing happened. I can get my DVI monitor working A++ but can't even get the Studio Display to do anything. I really need help, as this is going to be my main Photoshop Mac. Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

Only thing I can offer is to maybe check thhe voltages, especially the 25 VDC lines...

Oh, one more thing, in System Preferences>Displays, does show 2 monitors, does Detect Displys do anything?

Thanks for the response, but I found out what happened. I did detect the displays and everything around that. I found out that there is another small peace sticking out of the card with metal connectors, but my Powermac's motherboard doesn't have the small connector for it (The motherboard doesn't support the card). So, now I need to drop 80$ on a power adapter and adc to dvi converter device. If you know of anywhere to buy the adc to dvi converter/adapter, please tell me. Thanks again for the responce.

Just a note to avoid any possible confusion, you don't want an ADC->DVI converter, you want a DVI->ADC converter that has it's own 25V power supply brick.

Thanks, I am definitely considering investing in one of these. If I use regrular adapter, basically it would just be converting the pin size and not powering anything because there is no power coming from the card in the first place. So, do you think it will be worth it to buy one of these? They are still expensive (80to130$ I have seen). Also, do you know of any cheaper alternatives or 3rd party brands? Thanks for the answer. I just bought the adc, and am very nostalgic lol about my Apple gear. I think that I will look into one though.

I think there were 2 other 3rd party brands, but they still go for lots of money, nobody makes them any more.

The 17" which I also have, has a resolutionn of 1280*1024, here's a 20" 1600*900 LCD for under $100...

I think you should watch eBay and look for a 2002 Quicksilver - 933MHz or preferably dual 1 GHz - about $75 for the 933MHz or $100 for the dual 1GHz. Your hard drive and graphics card will interchange. The memory will not - it will need PC133 512MB non-ECC SDRAM and you should max it out at 1.5 GB. Your new monitor will work fine with its ADC connector and the Quicksilver motherboard, and you should live happily ever.
