Terrible problem of posterization after upgrading to movie 11

just upgraded one of our computers ( macbook OSX 10.6.8) ) from iMovie 9 to iMovie 11 . Install OK, but now all the projects show a terrible problem of image posterization ? really awful, although it was all perfect in imovie 09 ! what can be done ?
