Blank DVD Keeps Ejecting

Whenever I insert a blank dvd on my new iMac G5 w/t iSight it seems to eject it after few seconds. After numerous attempts (>5 times), I am able to load the DVD (sometimes not). At first I thought the blank DVD was faulty so I inserted another one, it still kept on giving the same problem.

Here are the few things I have tried
1. Tried with different blank DVD make - Sometimes it worked at one go, sometimes at >5 attempts.
2. Rebooting the mac - Did help me to burn a dvd but the trouble starts when I tried to burn second disc using same make or different dvd make.
3. Using another blank dvd (same make) - same result as above

I am using Toast 7.0.2, Sony DVD-R 1-8x, TDK DVD-R/+R 1-4x, Verbatim

Do you guys think its the drive problem? Should I visit apple centre?

Thanks in Advance

First, welcome to the discussions/
It cold be a couple of different things.
first go to your Apple and then System Preferences and then choose CD/DVD and see what the choices are when a disc is inserted.
Depending on your burner, Media can be very problematic.
I personally tend to stick with -minus media.
some RW and + media can cause some issues.
Be sure to go to your Apple and Software Update often to make sure you have the latest software updates and firmware updates for your machine.
Always Repair Permissions before and after. This will avoid you problems.
One last thing. I find it more reliable opening toast and then adding the content and clicking burn and waiting for the software to ask for you to insert the media.
Inserting the media first can sometimes cause issues.

How do I repair permissions?

I was told that by the support agent that Resetting the SMU (System Management Unit)can help to overcome this problem.

By resetting, OS and toast was able to detect the blank dvds. I will try burning few more dvds and see how I go with it.

Repair Permissions.
Go to your Mac HD. open it.
Choose Applications and Open it.
Scroll down to the bottom and choose Utilities open it
Next find Disk Utility and open it.
When it opens Left side at the top choose Mac HD
Now at the bottom choose Verify Permissions, after it is complete then choose Repair Permissions.
This is how you repair permissions.

I did have the same problem on my emac. In fact it depends on the dvd. If i tried with "very good and expensive blank dvd" all was ok. but if i tried with others, it did the same thing it did to you. The only solution i found is to change in pref cd/dvd " when insert a blak dvd, open toast". And from toast, i was able to burn everything, every time. Strange because no problem with blank cd. I guess it's a problem with mac osx. Because from with toast
i can burn dvd without problem. A mystery.

Thanks Don. After running the Disk Utility, it found no errors.

My pref setting is set to open Toast when blank dvd is inserted.

I usually insert the media after i am ready to burn, Thats when it kept on ejecting. System profile shows that I have MATSHITA drive. There is lot of discussion about mtshita superdrive issue. Do you think that could be the reason?

After resetting the SMU i have been able to burn few dvcd without any problem. Will keep on posting if there is any issue in future.
