Aug 18, 2011 4:35 PM in response to babyluliisby cpickrell,★HelpfulMicrosoft has instructions here:

Aug 18, 2011 5:04 PM in response to cpickrellby Csound1,Those instructions cover importing a .pst or .olm into Outlook 2011, MacMail (as the OP has discovered) can't import either of those.
There are also instructions on how to do it via Eudora, not the easiest way,
To the OP
Buy Emailchemy, it will handle the conversion for you.

I should ask, is this an iMap account? if so you don't need to import at all, what is your mail system, iMap, POP or Exchange?

Aug 18, 2011 5:27 PM in response to Csound1by charlesfromelk grove,If you read further down, it also has instructions to import mail from Mail.app into Outlook 2011.

Aug 18, 2011 6:49 PM in response to charlesfromelk groveby Csound1,True, I did acknowledge that, but not clearly now I look, but it requires Eudora, I'd like to find out what type of e-mail transport this account uses before recommending anything though

Aug 19, 2011 7:57 AM in response to Csound1by babyluliis,Hello, thanks for the reply. It's imap account...

Aug 19, 2011 8:21 AM in response to babyluliisby cpickrell,★HelpfulI think Csound1's point is that an IMAP accouns will download mail into your new computer automatically just by setting them on on the new machine as IMAP uses sync where POP mail does not. It will not import Mail in the On My Mac category unless you move that Mail over into your IMAP account.

Aug 19, 2011 8:30 AM in response to cpickrellby babyluliis,Thanks! The thing is that I'm currently using Outlook 2011. I have installed Lion OSX two days ago and it seems that Outlook 2011 is crashing. So I want to set up my imap account in mac mail. I need to make a backup of my e-mails because I've almost reached the limit in gmail. I assume that that the backup made in mac mail is .mbox. I've never used mac mail before so I might need to go back to using Outolook 2011. So if I've already backed up my e-mails in .mbox, how can I convert the .mbox into .pst or .olm so that I can import my backup to Outlook 2011? Thank you very much for your help. Regards.

Aug 19, 2011 9:09 AM in response to babyluliisby cpickrell,The only method I'm aware of is the import method above in the Microsoft.com link. I have not used it myself, so I'm not sure what it will do. I stopped using Outlook about 5 years ago and have been happy since.

Aug 19, 2011 12:57 PM in response to cpickrellby babyluliis,Thanks a lot. I've been trying to do as the link says. And in the last step, when I press "Import" it freezes and nothing else happens. However, I think I'm on track and I'll keep trying. Thank you very much! Regards.

Aug 19, 2011 1:07 PM in response to babyluliisby Csound1,Don't bother to convert, just setup your mail account in Mac Mail and it will synchronize to your actual account (which lives online)
Outlook 2011 is very crash happy, especially if you imported from Entourage.
Emailchemy is not free but it Will convert your entire Outlook account (mail/contacts/calendars) to a format compatible with Mac Mail/Address Book & iCal, there is a free trial but it will only import a limited amount until you pay, and paying is worth it, it's an excellent utility.

Aug 19, 2011 1:19 PM in response to Csound1by babyluliis,Thank you! I'll look up that app in itunes or A. store. I'm tired of Outlook, it crashes all the time. I'll change to mac mail and find a way to import some old e-mails that are in .pst format and are not online. Thanks!

Aug 19, 2011 1:31 PM in response to babyluliisby Csound1,I don't know whether Emailchemy is available in the App Store or the iTunes Store, but it is available here
It will deal with your old emails in .pst format as well.
