Target mode, library, and hidden folders

Since installing Lion, I've had a progressively unstable system, which now won't boot at all. Disk Utility indicates an invalid sibling link; apparently the only solution is to reformat the drive. So I've successfully gotten into target mode through a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, and copied the most important files onto an external hard drive. But the user library on the target disk does not show up in Finder (again, on Snow Leopard). I know it's hidden on Lion, and how to find it in Lion.

But how do I make it visible on a target disk in Snow Leopard? Or is there some other issue?

Navigate to the folder above it, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, and enter Library.
