Jose ~ Welcome to the Support Communities. You don't say what kind of Mac — the Macbook Air's tech specs for example say: "iLife... Includes iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand." ...No mention of iWeb. However, iWeb is included in the boxed version of iLife '11 in Apple's Online Store HERE.

Circumstantial evidence that Apple is considering discontinuing iWeb is increasing — unlike other iLife apps...

• iWeb hasn't received a major update since January 2009

• iWeb is not available in the App Store

• iWeb is not included with new Macs that don't have a SuperDrive, i.e. MacBook Air & Mac Mini

IWeb is a great piece of software, but if your new computer doesn't have it, don't fret too much.

To use it you need to spend money to host your site.

I paid $99/year for Mobileme, but that is going away. So I canceled that and paid half as much to a third party webhost.

I then bought a piece of software that lets me construct template based (easy) websites, and just kept on. There are some great free web based places like Weebly.com. I think it probably is best that folks consider not paying extra to get iLife/iWeb from Apple or eBay, as it may never get updated again, though it is a great piece of free software still. Why not start out learning something that will be updated and hopefully be around in a few years?

All in all, I wish they had updated iWeb, but have found great alternatives.

New Mac's are being shipped with iLife, but this now no longer includes either iWeb or iDVD as part of it.

If you want iWeb and iDVD, then you'll have to purchase the boxed DVD set of iLife 11 from either the Apple store itself or go to Amazon and have a look there to get a copy of either iLife 11 or iLife 09. Either iLife 11 or 09 will contain the most up to date copy of iWeb which is iWeb 09.

It is now apparent that iWeb, and iDVD, will no longer be supported by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD. iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:

Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:

◼ Password protection

◼ Blog and photo comments

◼ Blog search

◼ Hit counter

All of these issues can be replaced with 3rd party options.

I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken. If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.

There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows. Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.

However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone. How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.

Apple has announced that iLife is now an unsupported product and those iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the boxed iLife 11 at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought. Personally, if I already didn't have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

I bought a MacBook 2008 early. This MacBook include iWeb 2.x. Last month I upgraded some iLife '08 application to '11 but I couldn't upgrade iWeb '08 to newer. Last iWeb version is 3.0.4.

I wanted to buy an iLife '11, in Hungary. In the shop told the shop assistant that you have not ordered the boxed version.

How can I upgrade iWeb 2.x to 3.x?

By purchasing the boxed version of either iLife 11 or iLife 09. Both of these contain iWeb 09 or version 3 which is the latest.

Go to an Apple store and they are probably still selling boxed versions of iLife 11. Either you do this or go on Amazon and they sell iLife 11 and iLife 09 - both are available for sale on Amazon.co.uk and both have iWeb 09 on them.

This is the only way that you can upgrade iWeb 08 to 09.

Hm...I find this quite frustrating. I built a website for the nonprofit that I run on iWeb, and I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and was trying to open then site from it by downloading iWeb. Obviously, no luck. Do I have to use my old Mac to update the website and just hope I can build a new one on Weebly ASAP? Is there any way I can run an old version of iWeb on a new Mac?

If that is where you website is, then for the time being you'll have to keep the site updated on the old Mac. What version of iWeb are you using?

You can always go to the Apple store and purchase the boxed set of iLife 11 that contains the latest version of iWeb 09. Install this on your new Mac and then you can copy the domain.sites file over to your new Mac and you can then open the site with the version of iWeb that is on your new Mac.

You can also get the boxed sets of both iLife 11 and iLife 09 by going to Amazon - both of these contain the latest version of iWeb which is iWeb 09. You'll need to purchase this to be able to run it on a new Mac containing Lion.
