Text notification not working

I have my phone set to vibrate but it doesn't vibrate anymore when a text comes through. Also, I used to receive something like a "pop up" when a new text came in - that isn't happening anymore, either. The only way I know I've received a text message is to go into messages and catch it that way. Help, please!
