Will iCloud work with Snow Leopard?

I just followed the instructions provided by silverbullettall and it worked brilliantly! I'm running Snow Leopard on an early MacBook Intel Core Duo running Snow Leopard which can't be upgraded to Lion. My iMac in the office is running Lion and my iPhone is current with iOS 5.1.1. Now ALL of my iCloud calendars are synced between the MacBook, my iMac (the "mother ship") and my iPhone. Hurrah!

Now if I can get my email accounts to sync between the iMac on Lion and the MacBook running Snow Leopard. Not holding my breath for that one!

The solution is not quite right. The server address:

Server Address: p06-caldav.icloud.com

varies by user. The digits in pXX are found by going to the calendar in iCloud and looking at the Activity window.

Agree. I get stuck with dial up at the beach sometime. Cant survive without the external modem. Bad move Apple.

Apple is getting arrogant, just like the old WinTel conspiracy. New hardware enables better software and the new software does not work on anything but the latest hardware so users are constantly upgrading. This drove hardware sales for years worldwide and created a huge distrust of Microsoft and Intel.

My hardware perfectly serves my needs and I will not update just because Apple says I have to. I would rather spend my funds on the next ipdad.

Time for Apple to wise up and support iCloud on Snow Leopard. Otherwise it might be wiser for me to replace my current laptop with an MS device next time. At least Apple continue to support the MS interface with iCloud.

However I have a years worth of meetings and appointments in my calendar in my old account. These are not synced. Do I need to go through each event and re-lable it to the new account? Presumably I will need to use the new account for ever...

Agree. I have the excelent macbook black hardware and an new mac, with both leopard and lion and I starting to think thats Apple products is not the best choice, because they don't respect their customers needs.

Why Apple if I can use any other soluction that working better these days? I'm out on 2014, I expect.

What exactly do you mean by "old account"? MobileMe?

You could probably export your previous events from iCal and import them into iCloud's calendar.

I have my existing account in iCal called "On my mac" with categories: Home, Work etc and then a new account for iCloud, currently named with my email address. This also has Home, Work and reminders.

Previously I have only had one other device (various phones) and have synced by cable or by blue tooth.

So I have a years of history and a whole year + of planning in my diary under my "On My Mac" account which is not synced to the cloud. its not practical to move all the entires and I am quite nervous about having everything in a diary linked to iCloud. What if I want to move somewhere else. I was expecting iCloud to sync everything from On My Mac as phones have always done and the iPad and iPhone does now via USB cable.

Under normal circumstancea, i.e. in 10.7+, the local On My Mac calendars get sent to iCloud. But in your case this apparently didn't happen. However you can still import the old calendars into iCloud.

In iCal right click (or use the File -> Export menu) on each of your "On my Mac" calendars (categories as you call them) and export each one as an .ics file. Then use the File-> Import to add each one to the iCloud calendars.

As a safety precaution, export the entire On My Mac calendar as an Archive prior to the imports.

Once you've established that iCloud is synching everything, turn off the On My Mac calendars in iCal's Preferences I think (or just hide them). You won't be using them anymore.

You'll also want to configure the iOS devices to use iCloud and not the Mac's calendars. iCloud becomes the "master" database for calendars and addresses. The Mac and iOS become "slaves".

I am a new Mac uer. The Mac I have is an old MacBookPro 2006 and can not run Lion or ML, 10.6.8 is the best it can do. If I can not find a way to run iCloud on it then I may just go back to a Windows system. With that I can get iCloud and sync my Phone and photos. So I cant have iCloud on my Mac but I can have it on my Windows system? That is a great way to push new Mac users back to Windows.

You can have parts of iCloud on your Mac, Mail will work without any additional software. If you buy Soho Organizer you can also access Contacts, Calendars and Tasks.

Or (as you said) you can buy a Windows machine or install Windows on your Mac.
