Can I use iTunes gift cards to buy apps for my iPhone? ( Canada )

I was reading the back of an iTunes gift card and it says may not be eligible for app store purchases and then there other ones that don't say that. I've also read mixed things online, so before I buy one I want to know for sure.

Can I use gift cards in Canada ( bought in stores ) to purchase apps on my iPhone?
