Q: where is idvd on my new mac

BTW, you can't download all of iLife11. 

You can only download iPhoto, iMovie, and Garageband.  You need a boxed set to get iDVD and iWeb....

I'm really, really, really dissapointed with Apple.

I'm from Argentina and I have bought the new iMac, which is very expensive here, it's around U$S 4500 and the basic salary here is U$S 375 or U$S 500.

Although this, the new imac doesn't have the iDVD and the iWeb pre-installated !

I wanted to make a menu on it for a Dvd that I wanted to burn.

I have bought a Mac ! I have paid for it ! I can't believe that Apple could make this ! I'm really, really angry!

I don't care is Steve want to use the iCloud to show his videos to his family. In Argentina we use DVDs !

Apple should be tailored to the needs of each market ! I demand my iDVD + iWeb !

If Microsoft had done this we all should say "OK, it's Microsoft"

If Microsoft had done this, I'd understand, but Apple, no!

I am no longer a fan of Apple.

I'll stop recommending their products.

The worst of all this, is that the "iDVD" button is still in the "share" menu, but when you click over it, a mocking window ask you "Where is iDVD?" !!!!

I just got off the phone with Apple Care and they informed me that iDVD isn't compatible with Lion.

Hey everyone, I actually just stumbled upon iDVD on my macbook pro.  I am running OSX Lion and was looking into how to share an iPhoto library between users.  I was going through all the menus in iPhoto and under the sharing tab it lists iDVD.  Select a photo and share it to iDVD and iDVD should open...at least it did for me!  Good luck!

I have now my iDVD + iWeb working on LION.

Everything is working OK.

iDVD works perfectly with Lion.

It has to.  Most Lion owners are using iDVD.

I might've said something else, but then I have to report my own post.

I use the most recent imovie, and i like it better than the old idvd.

iMovie and iDVD are completely different applications.  iMovie allows you to edit your movies.  iDVD allows you to make menus and burn to an actual DVD.

Just bought a new Macbook air 11" running on Os X 10.7.2 and a superdrive so i could burn DVD's.... but no iDVD!

You will need to find a mac (yours/family/friends) that do have iDVD. Enable "file sharing" in system preferences on your mac and the mac with iDVD....this will help if you've got problems doing that:

So i did everything as per the first youtube clip however i encountered some problems:

1) couldnt find Library and thus application support. Found it was a hidden folder (press shift/command/g to get "go to folder" and type ~/Library and its all in there)

2) still could not transfer themes

So what i did was download some free themes from www.dvdthemepak.com/ 

After doing this iDVD worked!

Click on the grey themes below those that are available and iDVD autamatically updates them.

To get the themes that were in the original files of iDVD, i went to application support (directions above) and found that an iDVD had autimatically been added. I simply transfered the contents of the folder iDVD 6 (as per the first youtube clip) into this autimatically created folder.

Very long winded i know, but saves buying iLife and handing over more unnecessary $$$ to the very same people that removed iDVD in the first place.

I have a new iMac and was disappointed that iDVD wasn't included as i wanted it to burn Picture disks for my Photography clients. That said, its not the end of the world.

I know this may not be something people reading this may want to read but One thing i have noticed with iDVD on my Macbook Pro is that it only burns Video in standard Definition, so if your looking for iDVD to burn your HD Video then forget it, you'll be very disappointed!

I would recommend for HD video (Even though it requires a purchase) Roxio TOAST, its a long standing tried and tested burning app on the Mac platform for a number of years, and i swear by it!

Why can't you export the photos in iphoto, and use imovie? Or share using email?

So some Apple people STILL do not know about idvd not being on iMac.  Just bought a 27 inch imac last weekend.  The guy who helped us set up, showed us us the tutorial on idvd.  We told them we were buying mac for movies and burning dvd.  He told us how easy it was to use.  As many people pointed out, idvd button is still there and he even pointed it out to us.

Phoned Apple store, he faked being sorry that we were told that upon purchase, but story is must buy 3rd part app.  SO other than Roxio Toast at $79.99 what else is good for creating dvd.

Apple support would not recomend anything as it is 3rd part apps

You could burn the dvd's with iMovie. (Just make sure you use DVD-R's). Roxio Toast is very good also. I use Roxio alot. Sorry about the confusion. As for iDVD, I do not believe iDVD is available on the latest iLife 11 software. i DVD was a program that created a menu on top of the Movie. I am pretty sure the new iMovie (part of iLife 11 does now do what iDVD use to do.)
