Hi,
my new Lion server has a problem relaying mails to my ISP's server.
I configured it with the same parameters than my old Snow Leopard box, wich worked fine.
Lion cues all mails localy with an error saying that no "SASL mechanism" was found.
Can anyone give me a hint how to fix this localy?

here is the exact error message :
SASL authentication failed; cannot authenticate to server bla.bla.bla[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]: no mechanism available
I have got the exact same problem with smtp relay using 1und1.de !

Unfortunately I ´m not exprerienced with MacServer (I administer SBS2011 for my business, the Lion Server is used at home), and I stumbled into this problem setting up my 1&1 domain for home in the same way as my ( full functional) business domain.
Calling 1&1 didn´t have any success: ....to difficult, server branch...., macosx, network analysis required, support will have to be payed and can take long time.....; The Service Contact told me frankly they are not really interested to provide pro-support with the cheap homepage/domain packkages.

I had a similar problem and It seemed to be related to reverse lookup not working for the mail server.
I would double or triple check your hostname and reverse lookup.
I had the same problem. You have to enter the line "smtp_sasl_security_options = noanonymous" in the main.cf file.
I did as you said: no change, no success
the error messag in ServerAdmin says:
SASL authentication failed; cannot authenticate to server smtp.1und1.de[212.227.15.167]: no mechanism available
internal message traffic is working (as it was before)

What identification settings are active for SMTP? You have to check if PLAIN is active in server admin.
PLAIN is active; (as well as CRAM MD5 , Login etc.)
