I forgot my password to my Macbook Pro.

I forgot my password to my administrator's account on my new Macbook Pro. This was also the only account, I am now stuck on the login page. The Apple support page (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274) suggests putting in the software disc and restarting the computer to start from the disc but I can't restart the computer - the administrator account is still logged in and it requests the password to restart or turn off. I tried putting the disc in anyway and the computer whirred but nothing happened (presumably because I'm stuck on the login page). I ejected the disc.

Would waiting for the battery to die then plugging the computer in make it restart and allow me to try the method suggested? Are there any alternative solutions?
