wingdings keys

Someone answered this question 2-1/2 years ago, but there's no "character pallet" in Snow Leoparrd. Can someone give a new answer for how to do it:

In Font Book i clicked wingdings and it shows me all the symbols. but without the clue which key on the keyboard is which symbol. I need something like the old "Key Caps." How can I identify which key is which symbol?

You can look at and select wingdings/webdings by selecting Pi Fonts from the View drop down menu. Don't know about getting keystrokes.

Fascinating. I missed that because I use Spell Catcher and its logo takes the place of the keyboard logo. But at the bottom of its dropdown list are "Character Viewer" and "Keyboard Viewer." But are the only special characters you can select the ones that are listed there? Is it possible to go to Font Book, find a Wingding character, and see what key you have to hit to get that character?
