Completely Turn Off Wi-Fi on 2nd Gen Apple TV

When connecting the 2nd Generation Apple TV to an Ethernet connection, is there a way to completely turn the Wi-Fi card off so it doesn't even search for or broadcast a Wi-Fi signal? I need to install a 2nd Generation Apple TV in an area sensitive to radio waves, and we're prohibited from having any form of Wi-Fi broadcasting going on.

Thanks!

Yes. This device pulses a large amount of RF microwave radiation which is linked to a host of health problems. The older models can have these signals turned off, but this newer one cannot be turned off. I was thinking of opening up the box and trying to remove the chip. I think the remote we use would still be able to connect as it uses infrared.

btw...our home is free of all RF microwave as it makes my heart skip and I get headaches from it. No cell phone for me. All wired computer and phone. No problem.

I just measured a 3rd gen AppleTV with an EMF-meter

All electronic devices do. If this is paianoia about the health risks of EM/RF that is all bunk.

So I would say it does NOT turn off wif-fi at all.

That is not even a remote supported conclusion. Did you isolate the EM you were picking up to the WIFi frequencies bands? And then use a directional antenna to isolate the source? Your phones, music players, TV, DVD, etc. etc. ALL have WiFi, and bluetooth, another wireless support. Plus ALL electronic devices give off EM. If it has a cord it gives off EM. If it has a coil, CPU, monitor, etc. then it gives off a LOT of EM.

This is not about the health risks, I was just answering the mans question. I am an electrician and a maintainance technichian so I understand your points there. I was just measuring in my friends home because he had some interference, and I was surprised to find wifi was on in the Apple TV even though he has ethernet.

(I do have a meter with directional antenna and three different RF frequenzy bands, and it's obvious that the Apple TV is sending something.) So in an environment where you dont want RF you should NOT have an Apple TV.

I wasn't. On top of the points I already mentioned ATV and a WiFi end point. End points don't transmit they only receive (listen for SID's) when they do not have a connection.

I don't use WiFi in my house, but in my living room you can dect anywhere from 10 to 20 WiFi connections. There is really no where on earth other than RF isolated rooms that you will not pick up an abundance of EM and RF.

No, you don't want ANY electronic devices, and would have to be in an RF shielded room. We are constantly surrounded by RF and EM.

Well technically you are right, but it's all about levels. I'v climbed up in a cell tower while it was operational and that was not the smartest thing i've done ...

And even if you can see your neighbors network I wouldnt worry about that RF since there is a wall between, it gets very weak probably less than 0,01 mW/m2.

I work in several labs were we have lots of electronic equipment, but anything with a transmitter is not allowed - you see most electromagnetic fields around a machine weakens extremely quickly with the distance.
