iTunes should automatically sync voice memos to your iTunes library when you connect iPhone to your computer. This lets you listen to voice memos on your computer and provides a backup if you delete them from iPhone.

Voice memos are synced to the Voice Memos playlist. iTunes creates the playlist if it doesn’t exist. When you sync voice memos to iTunes, they remain in the Voice Memos application until you delete them. If you delete a voice memo on iPhone, it isn’t deleted from the Voice Memos playlist in iTunes. However, if you delete a voice memo from iTunes, it is deleted from iPhone the next time you sync with iTunes.

I'm using iTunes 10.5.1 under OS X 10.6.8, but there is no "Voice Memos" playlist. I can't find any way to create one, or to make iTunes realise it should do so for me. I have 'Sync Music: include Voice Memos' checked. I have Voice Memos on my 64Gb iPod Touch (running iOS 5.0.1), but I can't seem to access them in iTunes.

Someone suggested downloading Diskaid, but this app won't copy files unless you pay, & I am loathe to pay for a service which isn't actually required (IOW, a service which is already built-in). However, the free version of Diskaid could see the Voice Memos on my iPod, so that's a start…

I did eventually persuade iTunes to create a "Voice Memos" playlist. Here's what you can do if you're having the same issue:

In iTunes, select your device & choose the "Music" tab. Under "Sync Music" there is an option called "Include Voice Memos".

I unchecked this box, synced, & everything started working.

Counterintuitive, or what!

Counterintuitive for sure!

Thank you Caramby! I cannot believe this is Apple's Macintosh software! I was so careful to have that box CHECKED and was going crazy with that. Like you, I just UNchecked that box and my voice memos came from iPhone (iOS5, 3gs) to my Mac (Snow Leopard, iTunes 10.5.3)

I don't know if this would solve the problem on Windows, but I'd sure try it if I were on Windows.

First I was terrified to sync music bc I kept getting the message "Are you sure you want to sync music? All existing content on the iphone will be removed and replaced with songs and playlists from your itunes library." I thought for sure I'd lose my voice memos. But I bit the bullet and synced. Voice memos are still on the iphone, but they're not synced. I tried it with "Include voice memos" checked. I tried it with "Include voice memos" unchecked. Nothing.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

@amriser: dont worry even for my important voice memos I took backup and copied into a safe location to not to loose them in the future. let me tell U how I did.

1. after u connect ur iphone and itunes comes up. choose ur phone in the left-side pannel and choose Music from the top menu.

2. check for 'Include Voice Memos'. then u can see ur voice memos on the itune's Music Library(choose Music below Library from the left-side pannel).there U can see ur voice memos.

3. right-click on Ur voice memos and choose 'show in Windows Explorer'. then just copy them to Ur desired location and U can keep them safe.

The easiest way to transfer voice memos from you iphone, itouch or ipod, is to download this program from imacsoft (http://www.imacsoft.com/how-to-transfer-voicememos-from-ipod-to-pc.html) to your PC, then plug in your itouch or whatever you are using. The download is free but you can also buy it for $24. I used the free download to transfer voice memos. But, if you are creating a new folder within that program to save your memos in, be sure you click on the folder again once created. At least check afterwards to see that the file actually did copy into it before deleting it off your itouch.

Even though I got the message box that it copied, it did not. I think because I created a new folder. Anyway I had already deleted the files from my itouch before discovering this. So I tried on another memo, created a folder and double clicked on the folder before saving. Then I checked to make sure the file was actually there, and double clicked it so it played on media player, before deleting it from my itouch. It seemed to work great, but the previous files went into hyperspace.
