Q: App Store's blank page - final solution

Hi,

There is simple solution for that case (forWindows 7, 64):

1. C:\ProgramData\Apple\Installer Cache\AppleApplicationSupport 2.0.1

2. Right click

3. Uninstall

4. C:\ProgramData\Apple\Installer Cache\AppleApplicationSupport 1.5.2

5. Right click

6. Install

7. Restart Windows

It's all

Mkiitmr2 - Yes! It was my moitoring app that was causing the problem. My specific app says that they are working on a solution and have suggested downgrading to iTunes 10.4.1 and Safari 5.0.5

I had the same problem with iTunes 10.4, and could only fix it by uninstalling ALL Apple stuff, then reinstalling iTunes 10.4.1 WITHOUT Safari - installing Safari broke it immediately.

Now with iTunes 10.5 the problem is even worse.

With 10.5, I have the same "store blank" problem.

    - Uninstalling 10.5 and installing 10.4.1 results in store being broken too.

    - Uninstalling Apple Application Support 2.1.5 and installing 1.5.2 results in some "entry point not found" when launching iTunes 10.5.

So iTunes 10.5 NEEDS Apple Application Support 2.1.5 - which breaks the iTunes store.

Since my iPhone is on iOS 5 now, iTunes 10.4.1 can't use it anymore, and I need iTunes 10.5.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Peter

Hmmm, so what if you're unable to uninstall the Net Nanny software? My friend is the admin for the Net Nanny software for me, so I'm not able to do it. I've tried the other solutions that people on these threads have suggested, and they don't work.

Apple really needs to get their act together on this if this is a problem for so many people.

    Jerry,

Your fix worked perfectly - until I upgraded to iTunes 10.5 where there is now an AppleApplicationSupport 2.1.5!!! This has now restored the problem of the iTunes Store bar freezing half way through again. I tried your original fix of uninstalling 2.0.1 and installing 1.5.2 but this then led to iTunes being unusable and it required a fresh download of the whole iTunes package. So I feel like I am two steps forward three steps back. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

After spending another two days on pinning down the iTunes 10.5 blank store page problem, here's the solution to be found: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3372617?start=0&tstart=0

    Look out for "japiohelp".

    In short:

    a) press Windows key + "R", enter "cmd", and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter (= runs as admin)

    b) enter "netsh winsock reset" and pres enter

    c) reboot the computer

    and Bob's your uncle.

Tried everything else everyone said to and finally checked the Net Nanny site for support.  It worked!

Below is the link and the Net Nanny fix

    http://www.netnanny.com/forum/discussion/619/itunes-105/#Item_0

With Net Nanny installed and not running iTunes yet login to Admin Tools, click on Exceptions and Application Exceptions then select custom and enter the executable and try again.

Why is your friend the Admin for your Net Nanny software ?

Anyway, Integard by Race River produces the same results, cannot connect to iTunes store and 100% CPU usage beween iTunes.exe and AppleMobileDevice.exe.

Whilst Apple have obviously introduced something in their code or port usage that is getting blocked by Integard, I have asked Race River to investigate the issue too.

Recently I was getting blocked from the Internet in all manner of speaking and found that a recent update to Avast meant that pretty much all Web traffic was going via Avast for scanning and so I had to add Avast.exe to Integards list of allowable programs.

I tried doing this with the various iTunes related executables, but it didn't help.

I spent two days trying to figure out how to get my iTunes store to load.  I read a million threads and tried a ton of ideas.

I even had a Computer NERDZ guy at my house for almost three hours with no success.  I thought we had tried everything.

But then I read somewhere to uninstall Covenant Eyes and Net Nanny (and the likes).

I uninstalled Covenant Eyes, and immediately my problem was solved.

(I am on Windows 7 and iTunes 10.5.)

    Finally!!!!!

Btw I found that if I disabled the Integard service from starting up all access to the Web was stopped and I had to run netsh winsock reset and restart before the Web - and iTunes store - came back

Probably if I had uninstalled Integard it would have reversed what ever configuration changes it made and I wouldn't have to had run the the netsh command.

Along a similar note, I was also unable to connect to the iTunes Store after updating to iTunes 10.5. I also began getting "LSP" notices from Spyware Doctor Anti-Spyware Software, Version 8.0.0.654. There is a recent thread in the Spyware Doctor forums about possible incompatibilities with older versions Spyware Doctor and iTunes. After reading these threads:

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16372414#16372414

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16413513#16413513

I uninstalled/upgraded Spyware Doctor Anti-Spyware Software. iTunes Store now works with Spyware Doctor Anti-Spyware Software, Version 8.0.0.662.

Hate to say it, but it maybe worth your while to uninstall/upgrade any of your anti-virus or anti-spyware software.

    Hope this helps !!

I have NONE of the above mentioned "security" software packages running - the ONLY thing that fixed it for me was the "netsh winsock reset" command.

I have tracked it down with maybe 17 installations and deinstallations.

With iTunes 10.4, the store was broken as soon as also Safari 5 was installed.

This is probably due to the new version of Apple Application support (higher than v1.5.2) - but I didn't take the time to do 5 more installations to find out when exactly the AAS gets installed, and by which installer.

With iTunes 10.4, a possible was to uninstall AAS v2.1.5 and to reinstall v1.5.2 - the store became accessible by that.

With iTunes 10.5, the AAS v1.5.2 could not be used anymore, and the store was broken.

I then ran into the suggestion to do the winsock reset, tried it - and bingo, the store works again.

Nevertheless, on another Windows 7 system where I tried it, the iTunes built-in diagnose erratically states that there would be no permission for iTunes in the Windows firewall - which is clearly wrong. But best thing is - the store IS accessible on that other system, despite the iTunes diagnose!!

On my main system, where only the winsock reset helped, iTunes diagnose told me that all tests were passed successfully, and it did NOT find that iTunes wouldn't be defined in the Windows firewall.

    So, to put it short:

    a) On one system iTunes diagnose states something would be wrong - but the store works.

    b) On one system iTunes diagnose finds no problems at all - but the store will NOT work unless

        a winsock reset was issued.

All tests were made with a previous complete uninstall of all Apple products, and a freshly rebooted system, to have a well defined state to compare.

    Here's a summary:

Initial state: "blank" machine (no Apple products)

    1.a Installed iTunes 10.4 - store works

1.b Installed Safari 5 - store is dead

1.c Uninstalled Safari - store remains dead

Initial state: "blank" machine (no Apple products)

    2.a Installed iTunes 10.4 - store works

2.b Updated to iTunes 10.5 from within iTunes (ran Apple Software Update) - store dead

Initial state: "blank" machine (no Apple products)

    3.a Installed iTunes 10.4 - store works

3.b Installed iTunes 10.5 using installation package from Apple web site - store dead

Initial state: "blank" machine (no Apple products)

4.a Installed iTunes 10.5 using installation package from Apple web site - store dead

Initial state: "blank" machine (no Apple products)

    5.a Installed iTunes 10.4 - store works

5.b Installed Safari 5 - store is dead

5.c Uninstalled Apple Application Support v.2.1.5, reinstalled AAS v.1.5.2 - store works

Initial state: "blank" machine (no Apple products)

6.a Installed iTunes 10.5 using installation package from Apple web site - store dead

6.b Ran "netsh winsock reset", then reboot - store works

So it's clearly a problem of the Apple software - on NEITHER machine there's any software that would mess around with internet connections, ports, blocking things etc.

But now I have another annoying problem - the sync with my iPhone won't start.

It says "waiting for the synchronization to begin" and ends with "it couldn't be synced because the sync didn't begin".

BTW, with iOS 5 the iPhone doesn't display the "syncing" message anymore, did anybody notice?!

Oh boy ... the folks at Apple must have been drunk when they developed that.

I'm really done with that crap now - almost a week that I did nothing else but trying to fix things that are broken, and were working fine just before the update.

I though the purpose of that would be to INCREASE productivity - just the opposite is the case !!

And here's some new insight on the solution with the netsh winsock reset command:

    * It obviously breaks the DSL manager's connection / data volume logging.

A new thing in HKLM...\Run is to be found:

    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\APSDaemon.exe"

If anybody finds any information about this NEW component and what it actually DOES there, please let me know.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Peter

I happened to notice tht new process via task manager and thinking it was the culprit disabled it via MSCONFIG.

Ended up reverting back to iTunes 10.4.1.

Can'e believe how many background process iTunes kicks off either permanently or when it's running

    Always

    AppleMobileDeviceSerivice.exe

    APSDaemon.exe

    iPodService.exe

    iTunesHelper.exe

    mDNSreposnder.exe

    In Addition When iTunes Running

    AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe

    distnoted.exe

    iTunes.exe

What sort of cr@p program needs 8 executables running for it to work - other than Windows OS ?
