USB 3.0 external drive on iMac (Intel) possible?

Is there a cable with FW800 and USB 3 connectors? If so, will an iMac (late 2009) Duo Intel talk to drive with drivers from LaCie?

Thanks.

I won't be watching, I already know the answer. Gotta give you an A for persistence, however I think you'll see your time is being wasted. Apple simply does not support USB 3. I am sure you are after speed so your choices are Firewire 800 and Thunderbolt drives when they begin shipping. If you get a Mac Pro then you can also get a ESATA port and then connect a ESATA drive however your profile does not indicate you own a Mac Pro.

No, I am not recommending an ExpressCard for iMac. Currently only the high-end MacBook Pro 17 has it. Not even the 15" MB Pro has it; Apple took it off since the previous generation of 15" MB Pro.

I used the EC card with eSATA on an eSATA/FW800/FW400 external LaCie drive and eSATA was fast; a lot faster than FW800, I tell you. Just ******* for USB 3 speed right now since 'Thunderbolt' drives from LaCie is still scheduled for 'late summer' release, whenever that is.

As John said, it will work but only at USB 2.0 speeds. Therefore getting a USB 3.0 drive is a waste of money, save the money and get a FW 800 drive instead.

Or get a LaCie d2 Quadra which has Firewire 800 and USB 3 (in case OP has another device that uses USB 3)

I use the FW 800 connection on one HD and use the USB 3 (as USB 2) for quick copies from the iMac to a second HD since the iMac has only one FW port.

There's a v2 and a v3 of the d2 still being sold now.

I have several v1's (USB 2 as you show) and no longer made, and one v2 (USB 2 as you show) and no longer made but still sold at resellers) and one v3 with a USB 3 cable connection that I am using now connected to my USB 2 port. connection.

It shows up here on the LaCie site: http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10554
