You have a warranty issue. If you are covered by AppleCare contact them immediately or make an appointment at your local Apple Store or AASP. You can use the Apple Online Service Assistant to get started.
Just so people know...I have the exact same thing right now. Was preceeded by a high pitched whine when the screen was not set to full brightness. Also a flickering that seemed to be related to a faulty ambient light sensor as it has not flickered for 2 days since I turned off the auto adjust brightness
How much does this cost to get it fixed? Apparently my warrenty just ran out this month and even though i thought i got Apple Care when i leased my machine, i was mistaken.

Contact Apple's Express Lane, and plead your case. 27" iMac displays run over $500 USD.
