Can GarageBand teach me bass guitar?

Already thinking of making the switch, this could be a deal swinger!!

Thanks in advance for any advice (especially from bass playing Mac users!)

There are no Bass lessons within the GB system.

As a bass guitar teacher, the best thing I can suggest it to...

1. Find a reputable teacher and invest in some lessons.

2. Check the internet for free basic lessons to get yourself going.

GarageBand can definitely aid in your learning process though. I recommend its use to my students all the time as bass is a very 'lonely' instrument to learn, esp if you have no regular band involvement.

Cheers

Not sure what carriculum your teacher is using, but I use the Rockschool system http://www.rockschool.co.uk/ Its a very well laid out graded system. Its strength is the backing tracks. After loading them into itunes, you can drag them into GB, open a bass track, choose an amp and play along. You can record yourself as well. Its great to listen back to your own playing and keep a record of your progress.

Once familiar with a few basic bass progressions, some basic chord structures and the use of loops in GB, you will easily be able to make your own practice tracks to play along with... just like anything new though, what matters the most is theway you use your time in between lessons.

All the Best🙂
