Techtool Deluxe don't works with Mac OS X 10.7.x Lion...

TechTool Pro is made by Micromat, not by Apple.

Thanks for the info, i was looking for techtool deluxe for lion to download. Now I won't looks anymore. This is sad, now we have no free utility to check hardware? Applecare comes with nothing now, not even a diagnostic tool. What a rip-off

You have always had a free hardware diagnostic tool with OS X. It's call Apple Hardware Test. You obviously have never heard of it. I'd also recommend you read the Terms & Conditions of AppleCare, no where in there does it promise Micromat's software which btw was fairly worthless. All the diagnostic tools needed are right in OS X such as Disk Utility, AHT, Activity Monitor etc. which makes tools like Tech Tool Pro both redundant and without value.

I didn't know about the hardware test, you'd think there would be a mention of it by Apple somewhere.

There is mention of it, click the link I provided to find Apple's advice letter on how to access and run AHT. They have the same for doing SMC resets, PRAM resets and restarting in Safe Mode, all diagnostics built right into OS X.

I know, but they should mention it in the applecare package and in the welcome instructions for the computer. IMO. The average joe would never find it

My new Mini comes with the internal power supply and the cord that comes with it is too short. Is it safe to use an extension cord with it?

Also, is there anyway to turn off the start-up chime? I have headphones plugged into it and with my older Mini as long as I did that I didn't hear the chimes.

Last, what happened to the up and down arrows to navigate? I usually use the mouse scroll wheel but my mother can't because of carpal tunnel (she got my old Mini).

You can use an extension cord however personally I would not. I would however recommend getting a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Source.) You can find them at your local office supply store, Costco, Best Buy or local computer store. A much safer solution and it offers an additional layer of protection for your computer investment.

Regarding the start up chime, there are utilities for turning it off. You can find them by doing a Google Search however once again I'd recommend against it because the chime is an important part of the startup sequence. That being said why are you turning off the computer, please read your owners manual! If you insist on shutting down your computer rather than letting it sleep then simply turn down the sound prior to shutting it down.

In the current version of OS X Lion Apple has removed the scroll bars, You can turn them back on though in System Preferences - General - Show Scroll Bars. Lion is new and it's different, some things you may like some you may not. I would recommend reading MacWorlds review on it at:

Why the sarcartic reply about the Apple Hardware Test?

I don't believe that it can run a disk surface test, which was the main benefit of Techtool Deluxe.

The free downloadable version of Drive Genius 3 does do a read-only surface test and works well, but they want $99 for the version that can mark bad sectors.

In the absence of Techtool Deluxe, do you know of a free tool that can mark bad sectors?

I have a UPS and I decided to keep it where it is.

It's interesting that my other mini doesn't chime at start up with the headphones plugged into the jack but the new one does.

I feel better turning off the computer at night, I let it sleep during the day though on my days off when I know I'll be going back to it.

The scroll bar is there for me, but the up and down arrows are not.

I guess Apple figures with scrolling ball mice and being able to grab the scroll bar thats good enough, but those with carpal tunnel may feel differently.

I'm wondering now about the lack of a start up chime on my old Mini. It doesn't chime even without the headphones plugged in. Does this mean anything?
