What I do not understand is Apple is making a claim about quality by stubbornly promoting their proprietary devices setting it apart from the rest while their quality is not exceptional at all while higher priced than comparable products. It makes everything really complicated. I mean I don't want to spend my money on a microcircuit in a connector.
Guys, c'mon, COMMON SENSE
"Charging is not supported with this accessory"
It means that your CHARGER IS NOT AUTHORIZED TO CHARGE YOUR IPHONE
Solution? Just buy original apple charger. Never tolerate fake accessory.
A little bit hilarious reading some of the comments on this particular thread. Lots of people thinking there is some conspiracy from Apple or black magic with a particular IOS version update or I don't know what - but major hostility when some simple troubleshooting will identify if you have a software, cable, charger or hardware issue.
Some points to make:
Even if your phone is out of warranty, you can make an Apple "Genius" appointment and they will check your device and if needed, provide a free quote for repair (or repair free under warranty). You don't have to pay $$ to Apple just for walking into the store. Complete bollocks from some of the commentators..
Apple doesn't' monitor these forums. If you have a complaint, contact them directly. Stop complaining on this forum about Apple not responding to your forum comments!
If the error message is only with one cable or charger, replace the cable or charger and re-test!
If the error message is occurring with various cables, clean the internal phone connector (or if needed, replace the part)!
If your phone has a hardware failure and is out of warranty, suck it up and pay for a repair. Things break and fail all the time outside of warranty whether it be Apple or Samsung. Just a tip however is to check if you credit card offers an extended warranty - I've had several electronic items repaired/replaced using this free coverage.
Anyways, In MY PARTICULAR case, my phone started giving me the error ONLY when inserted in my car mount, but was fine with various other lightning cables at home. I simply cleaned the lightning cable contacts with a cotton swap, removed lots of black gunk using some rubbing alcohol and VOILA no more problems! Best of luck to everyone.
I am having this problem too and tried these things:
1. Cleaned the connector and charging port - worked for 1 month; cleaned again - not charging
2. Turning WiFi off and then charging - work for over 2 weeks
3. Putting in airplane mode and then charging - worked fr over 2 weeks
4. Changing cable - worked for over a month
But none of them is a permanent solution. I still do point 3 and sometimes it charges but most of the time it doesn't. Tried changing different sockets in my home and different place, it again work one or two times but then somehow it remembers its not new and didn't get charged.
Does anybody know a permanent solution or where exactly the problem is?
Phone: iPhone 3GS
Cables: iPhone original and local
I have the exact same problem. iPhone 3gs. IOS 5. plug it in to my computer using the original USB cable and I get the "Charging is not supported with this accessory" error! What gives!?!?!
The front ports on most computers are all the same port - a built in hub. So if you have other devices that use power plugged in to a front port there won't be enough power left for the iPhone.
You missed the NUMEROUS reports from hundreds of people over 3 years who fixed this problem by cleaning the connector on the bottom of the phone.
Yes, this is the real issue. Nothing has changed but the OS! Yes, Lawrence, I have tried cleaning the connector. No difference.
Yes Lawrence, same issue.. I cleaned everything as suggested, but still no help. Oh yeah, when it is powered completely off it charges fine. Still think it isn't the OS?
Yes, I'm absolutely certain it isn't the OS. But I'm not going to convince you, so I will drop off this thread.
If cleaning the connector, then inspecting it for any remaining dirt or damage doesn't fix it, take it to an Apple store for exchange.
Will have a look at that but I think the nearest Apple store to us is over 2 hours away!
Don't count on that working. I did replace my phone, and as I stated it worked fine until I upgraded the IOS. Now my brand new phone, cable and charger have the same issue.
5.1 resolved all of my charging issues, I can happily say. The only problem I currently have is and always will be that the battery life is absolutely horrendous.
Had the same problem when upgraded to ios 5.1 . Fixed the problem by turning wi-fi off and replugging in charger. Charged normally while wi-fi off.
