May 16, 2012 8:34 PM in response to Lawrence Finchby Onclewillie,Gad, you don't even realize that you have been twitted. I wonder how many other subjects you have offered a one size fits all solution? If you were truly all that you claim, and I have my doubts, you would know that there are different solutions for problems with similar symptoms.
Cleaning away dust is certainly not a waste of time. No one has said that. You just continue to insist that it can be the only solution even after a great deal of evidence has shown that there can be other fixes.

May 19, 2012 2:27 PM in response to joyfromfayetteby Ktallyn,I've got a special one for you: I've got an ipod touch, iOS 5.0.1. When plugged to the wall or to the PC (iTunes doesn't recognize the ipod), I get the "charging is not supported with this accessory" message. But when I plug it to my laptop (windows running laptop), iTunes detects it and it charges without a problem. What about that? Are the connecters dirty?

May 19, 2012 9:15 PM in response to Ktallynby Onclewillie,In all honesty, it really doesn't hurt to clean connectors, both sides. Just don't expect a mechanical problem with the connectors to be the sole cause of that warning. Sometimes the device you plug into is truly not compatible with your Apple product.
Without published parameters and without proper testing equipment there is no way to really know the cause. There can be problems of too much voltage drop because of too long of a cable and even pins on the connector corroded to cause an unacceptable voltage drop without any visual appearance of a problem. Mr. Lynch's supposed skills are at odds with the real world. Many believe that changes to the operating system have tightened tolerances to a point that previously reliable connections are now rendered obsolete. The overly broad warning notice does not differentiate between the many possible causes of failure to charge. Too bad Apple has not seen fit to provide better guidance on this subject.

May 20, 2012 5:17 AM in response to joyfromfayetteby jemg1982,My iPhone 4 problems started last night and appear to be a bit different to everyone else's.
Last night, my piPhone 4 would not charge when the battery was low. I was at my brother's house and figured it must be the charger. I got home and tried mine with the same problem. My brother was able to charge his iPhone 4 using both his and my charger. I have installed IOS 5.1.1 whereas he has not.
For the sake of arguments, I have cleaned my USB port as well as my charger port (even though they worked for my brother).
I am not getting an error message about charging not being supported.
When my battery drains, I get the red battery charging icon. When I then switch the phone on, it stops charging. It will only charge when switched off.
When it is switched on, iTunes can't find my phone. I know there is no problem with the leads as they work for my brother, and work for mine if the phone is switched off.
Any ideas welcome

May 22, 2012 4:11 AM in response to joyfromfayetteby jackthelad2012,Hi Guys,
I haven't read all 8 pages of comments, but i had this problem to the point my iPhone 4 wouldn't charge at all and i was considering buying a new one (didnt want to lose my phone for a week for repairs!)
Then i borrowed a cable from someone at work and it charged perfectly all the way to 100%.
Check your cable first, for 80 pence on Amazon it could be the cheapest solution (it was in my case anyway.)
Thanks,
Jack

May 22, 2012 9:29 AM in response to Ms badluckpennyby Asstar,Hi not very good though is it that apple once again make money because we all go out to buy new chargers/cables - I have 4 chargers and they all do the same thing IE I get the message to say not supported but only happened since upgraded to latest OS this has to be a bug in apple's software god how dare i say that! Or a ploy to get us all buying new charges/cables about time apple did something on this issue

May 22, 2012 11:36 AM in response to Asstarby Kempleton,Hey star, I do not think Apple is trying to make money on this. I bet their losses of people switching to Android when the time comes for an upgrade will be much more than the money they make off of chargers.
For the records, I sporadically receive this error message while NOT CHARGING the phone. It has been weeks since I first received this message and my phone has been charging just fine.
As far as I understand, this is a software issue. Shame on the developers that many people have a problem with this Charging error message and they have yet to find a concrete solution.
I was thinking that my phone has started to get old and die but I see people with newer iphone 4 and 4S receiving the same error. I think this is definitely a software problem!

May 22, 2012 11:49 AM in response to Kempletonby sdyjigme,Put in airplane mode and it will charge fine. It's a free work-around until there's an iOS update.

May 24, 2012 8:15 AM in response to Asstarby Ms badluckpenny,Play pretty boys and girls. Maybe some mean spirited elf put a bug in apples development software and they didnt catch it in time to stop everyone from running out and buying new chargers wall plugs and NEW iphones!Such a waste of money im sure the people of apple feel really bad and they fix the problem as soon as a few more people upgrade thier phones ans thier ios to 5.1.1 .Im sure if you cant jailbreak they going to be happy

May 24, 2012 10:56 AM in response to Ms badluckpennyby Ms badluckpenny,Ps if you let the message go away on its own and dint dismiss it it doesnt come back for a few days also wait a minute or two after messages disappears and it will charge just like it used to Or my iphone 4 seems too.In case you couldnt tell i was being scarastic in my last post In my OPINION the folks at apple got what this bug was intended for to get us to spend money for thier products I agree with Asstar.

Jun 1, 2012 7:17 PM in response to joyfromfayetteby bubblychik22,Hi, I just wanted to let you all know of my solution to the "charging not supported with this accessory" problem. I did clean out the connectors and found quite a bit of dust, dirt, etc. but nevertheless did not solve my problem. I found that I have enhanced usb slots (2.0) on my computer. I moved the charger cord from a usb 1.0 slot to a usb 2.0 slot and problem is solved! I don't know that this is a universal answer, but I hopes it helps someone out there!
