Sep 5, 2014 12:24 PM in response to joyfromfayetteby walk0080,A little bit hilarious reading some of the comments on this particular thread. Lots of people thinking there is some conspiracy from Apple or black magic with a particular IOS version update or I don't know what - but major hostility when some simple troubleshooting will identify if you have a software, cable, charger or hardware issue.
Some points to make:
Even if your phone is out of warranty, you can make an Apple "Genius" appointment and they will check your device and if needed, provide a free quote for repair (or repair free under warranty). You don't have to pay $$ to Apple just for walking into the store. Complete bollocks from some of the commentators..
Apple doesn't' monitor these forums. If you have a complaint, contact them directly. Stop complaining on this forum about Apple not responding to your forum comments!
If the error message is only with one cable or charger, replace the cable or charger and re-test!
If the error message is occurring with various cables, clean the internal phone connector (or if needed, replace the part)!
If your phone has a hardware failure and is out of warranty, suck it up and pay for a repair. Things break and fail all the time outside of warranty whether it be Apple or Samsung. Just a tip however is to check if you credit card offers an extended warranty - I've had several electronic items repaired/replaced using this free coverage.
Anyways, In MY PARTICULAR case, my phone started giving me the error ONLY when inserted in my car mount, but was fine with various other lightning cables at home. I simply cleaned the lightning cable contacts with a cotton swap, removed lots of black gunk using some rubbing alcohol and VOILA no more problems! Best of luck to everyone.

Oct 6, 2014 2:10 AM in response to joyfromfayetteby ash_gaur9,I am having this problem too and tried these things:
1. Cleaned the connector and charging port - worked for 1 month; cleaned again - not charging
2. Turning WiFi off and then charging - work for over 2 weeks
3. Putting in airplane mode and then charging - worked fr over 2 weeks
4. Changing cable - worked for over a month
But none of them is a permanent solution. I still do point 3 and sometimes it charges but most of the time it doesn't. Tried changing different sockets in my home and different place, it again work one or two times but then somehow it remembers its not new and didn't get charged.
Does anybody know a permanent solution or where exactly the problem is?
Phone: iPhone 3GS
Cables: iPhone original and local
