iTunes 10.4.1 install failed

I just upgraded to 10.4.1.1 I keep getting a message that "ITunes was not installed correctly" (error 7). I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no luck. I have the 32 bit version of Windows vista.

Let's try to install iTunes manually...

Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe installer file to your hard drive:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

http://www.rarlab.com/

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe , and select "Extract to iTunesSetup". WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup".

Go into the folder and doubleclick the QuickTime.msi to do a standalone QuickTime.msi install.

If you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

OS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1. 64-bit

Exactly the same problem for me; tried uninstalling, was unable to completely delete the bonjour folders, and had to resort to some tricky windows hacks to finally erase bonjour. Still unable to install iTunes 10.4.1

This is the first time I have ever had a problem installing or upgrading iTunes

Hi - Thanks for trying to sort this out. I followed your instructions exactly, I believe.

1. Manual install of quicktime.msi worked fine, no hitches.

2. Manual install of itunes caused 4 errors.

Here are the errors I eceived this time round - 4 errors in total. I should point out that this is about my 3rd time of installing 10.4.1, so I expect it is in a right mess now. However, perhaps someone will now be able to understand what is going on.

Ok, try to do that:

- First you have to totally uninstall iTunes, Quicktime, Apple Software updater...-anything with Apple in the name.

- Second, open regedit using "run as administrator".

- Then go to the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\ S-1-5-18\Components\25E80ACDE408FA340A7FB908F9CCEFFB\90F2D0AC118F4D8448E38C67696 C94A9D (this is the data I see in the screendumps)

...and selected the folder 25E80ACDE408FA340A7FB908F9CCEFFB

Right click & choose permissions

click advanced, and then the owner tab

type "administrators" in current owners field and check th box to replace the owner on subcontainer and volumes

Apply settings and then click permissions tab. Once again, add "administrators" to the list of permission entries, then click edit and check all permission boxes. Also click the 2 bottom boxes concerning the inheritable permissions.

Click OK

Now back on the main permissions tab, choose administrators in the group or user name window and then check full control and read checkboxes. Click OK.

Back in the main regedit window, you should now see keys in the right pane for each subfolder in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\ S-1-5-18\Components\25E80ACDE408FA340A7FB908F9CCEFFB

On the menu bar click file > exit

download and install the new combined iTunes and Quicktime from apple.

Everything should work fine. I hope this helps.

mmm...ok try to do that...right click on the folder selected-click on advanced -> auditing -> add -> advanced -> find now -> add administrator & everyone -> go back to auditing section -> tick on "replace all existing inheritable..." -> click on effective permissions -> select -> advanced -> find now -> administrators -> make sure everything is checked and do that for everyone as well -> click on until you get out of the permissions section -> then go back into permissions and undo everything you just did -> try to access the keys and see if it lets you access them.

I hope it works...
