Change "Date Added" in iTunes?

Change "Date Added" in iTunes?

I want to change the "date added" date of an iTunes file. This would be to fool a smart playlist to insert the song in another position.

I haven't found a way.

Any ideas? Thanks,

As you can see, looking at the file, each song has its own, individual entry. Before you proceed you should quit iTunes and make a backup of this file. Just duplicate it in place so if something goes wrong with your edits you can get back to where you were.

1. Type Apple+F on the keyboard to bring up the "Find" dialog.
2. Type the name of the song you want to find and click Next.
3. Look for "Date Added" and change the date.
4. Save the file. That should do it.

You can edit the iTunes Music Library.xml file to change the date added.

Thanks for the info. I should be able to follow O.K. but I think I'll wait until tomorrow when I'm awake.

I'll post back the results.....if I can on this now answered thread.

P.S. I had located the file by trial and error, but I'll do it again with "find" for practice.

I'm looking at the .xml file in TextEdit now. How do I : 1) find the particular file, 2)change it?

In other words.......HELP

You're welcome.

Just be sure and create a backup copy of that XML file before you edit it.
