iphone 4 still showing deleted emails

I have a gmail account, and a MS exchange account setup on my iPhone 4. Recently i deleted an old email on my iPhone, and it still keeps showing up as unread on the iPhone. It is an email from the exchange account, and i can't figure out why it won't go away... Any advice?
