Found fuspredownloader.app in Login Elements

Hi all. I found the app fuspredownloader in Preference Pane -> Account -> Login Elements (I hope the english names are correct, my system is in Italian). The Hide checkbox is selected. The app is located in an hidden folder with path Library/Application Support/.FUS/ where i found these files:

  • fuspredownloader.app
  • PreDownloadNotify.app
  • temp.zip
  • URLInfo.xml

In the xml file, I found an existing Apple URL:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
        <key>STAGING_SERVER_FLAG</key>
        <string>0</string>
        <key>TEST_FLAG</key>
        <string>0</string>
</dict>
</plist>

So I'm confused: where does this application come from? Have i to be worried? Can i delete it without problems or is part of an Apple service?

I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.8.

Thanks for your attention.

It's in your Application Support so it's not an apple service or anything else from apple. It is some kind of helper application associated with something you installed. I don't recognize the app names nor the .FUS name so I can't give you any more definitive info on it.

Whatever you installed, if you remove their login items (not the word "elements" by the way) whatever wants those login items won't function properly or most likely at all. Maybe it will complain and then you will know what you installed (whatever it is). You could rename the .FUS directory as well but if the login items are removed it won't matter anyway.

When you went to System Preferences and got to the Login Items list, did you click on the "-" button at the bottom so that "fuspredownloader" was deleted? It sounds like you might have clicked on the checkbox to the left of "fuspredownloader". That will only start it hidden or not. You have to make it disappear from the list, then restart.

To get to a hidden folder, you have to use the "Go To Folder..." command off the "Go" menu in Finder.

The .FUS directory is hidden in the ~/Library/Application Support directory. If you go to the Finder's "Go" menu and click on "Go to folder...", then enter ~/Library/Application Support/.FUS, you'll get to it. I'm pretty sure you can copy and paste it right from this post. the "~" will mean your "/Users/blablabla" and the rest will get you there. Because it's hidden, you won't see it going directly from a Finder window, you have to use the "Go" menu.

Now I get it! Sorry, I'm new in this Mac world, but I'll get there sooner or later, lol. I managed to get rid of the fuspredownloader in the Login Items list and also deleted the fuspredownloader inside the .fus folder. Thanks. Just let me ask you one more thing. Do I have to delete the other files or only the fuspredownloader? Thanks again.

You're probably in list view. When you use the "Go" menu and "Open a Folder..." and enter ~/Library/Application Support/.FUS you should see something like this:

User uploaded file

Make sure that you're in column view like in the picture above. Click the button where I put the lame red arrow so you see columns. You should be able to see the folder and delete it then. Hope this helps!

PS - Click the picture above to see it better.

Your help is excellent for the novice (me). However, I have the same problem as the original poster but in my case the .fus folder as will as any .fus files are not locatable using your instructions. Could it/they be located in a directory other than /Library/Application Support/? Any furter instructions how I might find them? I uninstalled Kies but the fuspredownloader is still showing up checked in my Login Items.

Thanks.
