Q: iTunes 10.4 Blank iTunes Store Fix

I too had the blank iTunes Store window after downloading iTunes 10.4.  This appears to be a widespread problem for 32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7 systems.  There are several "simple" fixes that I found online that did not work for me and I absolutely refuse to pay Apple Support $50 for their help. The following solution worked for my  32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7 laptops.  My solution was to downgrade the iTunes software.  I uninstalled iTunes 10.4 and reinstalled iTunes 10.3. I did not backup my songs and I did not lose any songs.  I learned that when you uninstall iTunes the database is backed up automatically and put in the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder.  But if you are worried and want to be ultra safe go ahead and back it up yourself.  Here are the steps to properly uninstall iTunes 10.4 and reinstall iTunes 10.3:

1.  Go to Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall

2.  Uninstall the following Apple programs in the following order:

     a. iTunes

     b. QuickTime

     c. Apple Software Update

     d. Apple Mobile Devices Support

     e. Bonjour

     f.  Apple Appllcation Support

3.  Reboot PC

4.  Find, Download and Install iTunes 10.3 (you can find it at FileHippo.com)

If you start iTunes now you will get an error message saying that the current iTunes library was created by a newer version of iTunes.  To correct this:

5.  Go to your Music>iTunes folder and delete the "iTunes Library.itl" database file

6.  Within this iTunes folder find and open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and locate the most recently dated "iTunes Library (date).itl" database file.

7.  Copy and Paste this file back into the iTunes folder

8.  Rename this "iTunes Library (date).itl" file by removing the date.  It should say "iTunes Library.itl"

9.  Reboot PC

You are finished.  Good Luck and I hope this helps.

I feel your pain because that was exactly my experience too.  Two days of frustration and absolutely no help from Apple support, or Apple forums (including this forum).   I actually found this solution on a Windows forum.  I was so happy, and I thought I can't be the only one, so I thought I would post here to hopefully help others avoid what you and I experienced.  I'm glad I was able to help you.

And what's the deal with Apple Support? Doesn't Apple monitor these forums? Why don't they get their act together and post the fix for this on the page that allegedly deals with this problem? Hello? Apple? Anybody there?

    Hi Daffy 2011,

I agree, that's why I included a link to this specific thread in my update to the Apple support crew (scroll down to see my email):

RE: "Doesn't Apple monitor these forums?"...my impression is NO, they don't...however, it's at least reassuring to know that Apple attracts a clientele sufficiently savvy to seek answers AND unselfishly share their findings to help others!

Do I need to uninstall everything or will it still work if I just uninstall iTunes?

What worked for me was to uninstall everything that Bukifvr's message said I should uninstall, in that order. I then reinstalled 10.4.1. That worked for me (Windows XP Pro).

So if I uninstall everything and reinstall everything (the newest versions), it should work?

Uninstalling all of the items in the order listed, then installing the lastest version fresh worked for me.  I'm on a Windows 32bit XP Home Edition SP3.

Also, at some point I had disallowed Bonjour in my firewall settings, I had to allow that internet access in order for the new iTunes to install.

I'm missing some music too.  I see 9/4 comment by herbapam talks about retrieving songs but I haven't tried it out yet.  Also, you can use itunes to see previously purchased music but I haven't figured out how to re-download them yet....

Once you've upgraded to 10.4 and access the iTunes Store, there is a new entry in the right side navigation where it will identify purchased items not currently in your "local" itunes.  Select that entry to open display...

Click the "cloud" icon to the right of the missing purchases and it will download - as easy as that!  I had a restored iTunes db, so I had lost many of my purchases that couldn't be "restored."

And with this new feature, I was able to restore them.  It restored songs & TV shows that I had long thought of as "gone."

Very nice feature...if only that cloud contained all the albums/songs that I had ripped over the years that didn't restore...but i was happy to have not ultimately lost the purchases.

was a learning moment about really having a backup...my bad. :-)

FileHippo does have 10.3, but you have to click 10.4 to go to its download page.  On that page there is a column on the right side of the page that has all the older versions available.  If you want something more current than 10.3, you can download 10.4.1.
