Q: iTunes 10.4 Blank iTunes Store Fix

I too had the blank iTunes Store window after downloading iTunes 10.4.  This appears to be a widespread problem for 32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7 systems.  There are several "simple" fixes that I found online that did not work for me and I absolutely refuse to pay Apple Support $50 for their help. The following solution worked for my  32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7 laptops.  My solution was to downgrade the iTunes software.  I uninstalled iTunes 10.4 and reinstalled iTunes 10.3. I did not backup my songs and I did not lose any songs.  I learned that when you uninstall iTunes the database is backed up automatically and put in the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder.  But if you are worried and want to be ultra safe go ahead and back it up yourself.  Here are the steps to properly uninstall iTunes 10.4 and reinstall iTunes 10.3:

1.  Go to Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall

2.  Uninstall the following Apple programs in the following order:

     a. iTunes

     b. QuickTime

     c. Apple Software Update

     d. Apple Mobile Devices Support

     e. Bonjour

     f.  Apple Appllcation Support

3.  Reboot PC

4.  Find, Download and Install iTunes 10.3 (you can find it at FileHippo.com)

If you start iTunes now you will get an error message saying that the current iTunes library was created by a newer version of iTunes.  To correct this:

5.  Go to your Music>iTunes folder and delete the "iTunes Library.itl" database file

6.  Within this iTunes folder find and open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and locate the most recently dated "iTunes Library (date).itl" database file.

7.  Copy and Paste this file back into the iTunes folder

8.  Rename this "iTunes Library (date).itl" file by removing the date.  It should say "iTunes Library.itl"

9.  Reboot PC

You are finished.  Good Luck and I hope this helps.

I am running Win 7 64bit and had the same problems as you all.

I tried the reinstall trick - fail

    The netsh trick - fail

Someone mentioned Netnanny which I use so I went to their forum and found http://www.netnanny.com/forum/discussion/619/itunes-105/#Item_0

I have now added iTunes to Netnanny's exception list and have sucess at last.

    It's worth a shot

I'm cross-posting this post I made in another thread as I think it's important:

I did get iTunes fixed (well, so far) by the "netsh" command, but is does unhook a lot of networking stuff, some of which I might regret. Amongst others it stopped my Anti-Virus monitoring internet traffic (!!!). I've put that back but do wish I'd got a list of what was there beforehand so I could see what else was trashed.

    ...and another repost

Oh, you can see what get trashed by the stuff I posted here, but when I did mine it was late, I was tired, and I rushed...

I did the same process bukifvr did and it worked for a short time but then had the same 100% cpu problem as before. Tried several things till finally I uninstall Covenant Eyes and iTunes 10.5 works perfectly now.

    Hope this helps others.

I'm running Avast for my anti-virus program, no problems with it.

    Vista 32 bit

    iPhone 4

One other note is that the netsh winsock reset did not help my problem because on the reboot CE would re-install.

iTunes 10.4.1 worked for me after following these instructions! So relieving, but when I updated to 10.5 I got the blank store again... so it looks like I'm sticking with 10.4.1 for now

Thank you SO much for your instructions!!

I had never upgraded from 10.3 to 10.4 but today I decided to do the 10.5 update. It turned out to be the wrong decision as I had the "itunes store problem"...
The day seemed ruined because none of the common fixes worked. But then I discovered your solution and simply gave it a try. (deleting my beloved itunes library gave me a hard time but there was no alternative)

It worked *perfectly*!! You made my day! =)
    Thank you again!

Windows 7 64-bit here and having the same problem since updating to 10.5.  I tried all the suggestions from reinstalling to the netsh fix but still didn't do it for me.  With my current setup I have two integrated ethernet interface (Realtek) plus installing a 3rd party NIC (Killer Xeno Pro Network Card - this conneciton was working since 9)

I narrowed it down to my NICs.  I finally got it working using the integrated nic instead of the 3rd party network card.  So if you guys have mutliple NIC interfaces, try using the different ones even wireless if the option is available.  Still trying to figure out why it won't work with my 3rd party card.  I updated the 3rd party NIC drivers.

I know not all setups are the same but I hope this helps for anyone that tried all the suggested fix.

My issues was resolved by adding iTunes to the exceptions list in NetNanny. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have experienced the same issue and want to return to 10.4.* because 10.5 has been a significant problem on my PC.  Can you point me how to get back to 10.4?

    Thanks.

Thank you for your post as I am having the same issue.  As I looked in my iTunes music folder, I only found one iTunes Library file, but it said it was last modified in 2009.  Where else could this file reside?  I want to locate it before uninstalling and reinstalling 10.4.

    Thanks,

Thank you so much it worked great!  However, We just bought my son an ipod touch and it won't sync unless I upgrade to 10.5.  That of course left me with being able to sync but not access the store.  Has anyone else run into this and have a fix?  Thanks again!

I finally was able to update to iTunes 10.5.  After much research, I found that my version of Spyware Doctor with Antivirus software was causing some sort of conflict with iTunes.  It would actually block iTunes from connecting to the internet.  I learned that this is a known problem (but nobody told me :{ ).  The solution for me was to uninstall Spyware Doctor with Antivirus software from my laptop.  Reboot.  Upgrade iTunes to version 10.5.  Verify that it installed properly.  For me that was evident when the iTunes Store loaded properly. Reinstall the latest version of Spyware Doctor with Antivirus (which is now compatible with iTunes 10.5)  This worked for me.  This solved our two problems of the iTunes Store not loading, and inability to upgrade and iPhone 4 to iOS 5.  We are happy now.

Oh, I almost forgot, that I also downloaded and ran CCleaner to cleanup and remove all the junk on my PC -  Good Luck

I don't know that much about why you are being prompted to upgrade to 10.5, but if you are running Windows XP I just discovered today, that 10.5 is not compatible with XP.  I downgraded to 10.4.1 and was able to get my computer back to proper performance and to have iTunes actually work properly again -- iStore, Sync, CPU not consumed.  The following link will take you to where I found the iTunes 10.4.1 application and the long list of threads with others experiencing the same issue that has prompted all of these posts.

    http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=6278

If you determine that you need to move back to 10.4, be sure to follow Apple's instructions exactly to remove iTunes from your computer.  Failing to follow them can prevent the replacement version from loading properly.

    See:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925

    Hope this helps!  Good Luck!
