iMovie Eating Up Disk Space

I just imported footage through iMovie, and then deleted that footage through finder (movies>iMovie events). However, now my hard drive is short several gigs. I've double checked iMovie and my trash bin. Does iMovie also store my footage in another folder? How can I get back the disk space I've lost? Thank you!
