Logic 9.5.1 OSX 10.6.8 Midi time out?

I saw this for the first time right after 9.1.5 update, too. Only once so far...

This needs an update.

I've had this happen a couple of times since going up to 9.1.5

How funny ..... that's exactly what i've been doing Sample Construct. Since Hollywood Strings turned up last year and all the complications caused by PLAY 2 ( ..... do we dare try 3 yet?) ..... AND DO WE TRY 64 Bit ..... I've just found some time to upgrade from Leopard ...... and suddenly this strange MIDI error?

Incidentally ........ how far are you going with upgrades? I've been very stable with Logic 9.1.2 and OSX 5.8 for a couple of years and now going through the customary grieve that "going up" means?!

I found a few reports of it happening in LP 9.0.1 and 9.1.3. So it's apparently not a "new" 9.1.5-thing.

Nobody appears to have a solution though (except updating drivers...)

I would like to know what it means... I thought MIDI timeouts had something to do with Active Sensing, and I thought that was hardly used anymore...? Or is it something completely different?

Had recurring midi time out message in OSX lion Logic 9.1.5, unistalled Protools and works fine (Protools was buggered in my Lion anyway)

Same story developed in my system. As it happened to me when i installed Protools LE in my computer, i figured out why it happens as following...........

In protools installer CD, Inside the "Additional Files">"Factory Bundle Installers">(Install 003 Factory PFP Bundle .mpkg and install Mbox 2 Factory PF Bundle.mpkg). When you try to install any of those it gives a warning to make sure that you have right midi device for that installer. For eg. if you have mbox mini- you must not install any of these installers, it is because once you had those plugins installed logic will not sync with mbox mini and Logic will keep checking Midi Controllers ar the startup and finally gives the message "MIDI TIMEOUT"

Despite of these warnings if you install it then you will have the problem of MIDI TIMEOUT in Logic or any apple music software that you are using. Incase you have installed those plugins you can find the plugins of these installers in

HD>Library>Audio>Midi Drivers>

Just trash them and do not forget to empty the trash.

Once you did this, you can restart your Logic and Start Using it.!!!!!!!!

My Warning, while installing Protools

DO NOT INSTALL THE "FACTORY BUNDLE INSTALLERS" IF YOU ARE NOT SURE.

When I removed the four files from HD>Library>Audio>Midi Drivers>(Except the file:EmagicUSBMIDIDriver),empty the trash.It works!

sure wish I would of found this post quicker - solved my issue and back to working like it should. Not sure where those MBox files came from.

I had the same issue with Logic Pro 9 when I updated to Lion. Also, GarageBand would not "Initialize."

This was my fault of course:

When I finished the (Lion) installation I ignored the "Incompatible Software" warning folder, and went ahead and continued editing my Pro Tools LE 8.04 sessions as well as Logic Pro 9 sessions. I was pleased that the apparent "Incompatible version" of Pro Tools continued to work. That is, until the next day, when I tried to open a logic session it froze on the "searching for Midi drivers" screen. Eventually it would open, but, it would not run.

After searching for a practical solution. I gave up and stuck my Pro Tools LE 8 disc in and did a "FULL CLEAN UNINSTALL." As a precaution I also deleted "Melodnye stand alone". Although I believe the true melodyne incompatibility came from the Pro Tools disc. Which included a "ReWire" version. I rebooted, and, everything worked fine.

The moral of the (MY) story is:

-Upon updating your OS, Take Apple's precautions seriously. They know what they're doing and I'm thankful that they are wise enough to quarantine software that will screw up drivers.

-Also. I had heard that Pro Tools was compatible with Lion, yet, I failed to further investigate that PRO TOOLS LE 8 IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH LION! Only versions 9 and up. I believe that means M powered 9 is compatible too (but don't quote me on that). I'm ok with that, as i've grown to like Logic more. Although, I hate to see money go down the drain.

I encountered this problem this morning while working on some automation in my mix. I'm mixing audio only, no MIDI tracks or software instruments. Tried everything from trashing midi drivers, restarting computer, etc and the error message kept coming up. Could not even hit play without message popping up. I even created a new session file and importing all my data (audio, plugins and settings and automation) and still same problem.

What finally worked was going back to a session file I had saved that did NOT contain automation. The session played fine. So I slowly imported my settings and automation one track at a time. I stopped at the set of tracks which I was last working on before getting the MIDI error messages. The session file is now working without any problems.

I'm using Logic 9.1.5 on OS 10.6.7. I also have Protools installed on my system and have had no problems with compatibility.
