iLiferaw files from my new Panasonic DMC-GF3 - even though the GF1 and GF2 are supported.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the RW2 produced by a GF3 is not the same as the RW2 produced by a GF3. So, yes, you'll need to wait for an update.
There is no "backward compatibility" issue here. Backward Compatibility is when newer software can open older data formats. What you're looking for is forward compatibility - where older software could open data formats that post-date software. No manufacturer can promise that.

I have this problem, too, on a GF2 running iPhoto '09. I don't have aperture.
What is the solution?
Thanks,

The Aperture tech specs page:
http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
Says that the DMC-GF3 requires Aperture 3 or later. I would expect that the latest version of iPhoto could thus work with it as well.. you'll probably need to upgrade to the latest version of iPhoto, which is available in the Mac App Store. You'll probably need to be running Lion 10.7.4 or later.

the DMC-GF3 is supported by Mountain Lion, but not by Lion. Probably upgrading to Mountain Lion would help; see these lists:
- OS X Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757
- OS X Mountain Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5371

That is incorrect. The attached Lion Kbase clearly notes the DMC-GF3 is supported in 10.7.2 or later:
Supported by OS X Lion v10.7.2 or later
Konica Minolta DiMAGE A200
Olympus PEN E-P3
Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G3
Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GF3
Samsung NX11
Samsung NX100
Sony Alpha NEX-C3
Sony Alpha SLT-A35
To my knowledge, there are no RAW formats that are supported in Mountain Lion, but not in Lion, at this time.
