How to check if my MacBook has a virus?

I've had my mac for about 2 years now, and it worked perfectly and very crisp. But for some time it has been running very slow, although I have 227 GB available. Opening applications takes a lot of time and I often have to close not responding windows such as safari, videos or email. How do Mac users know if they've got a virus, and how can I virus-scan my computer?

Check and see if you have a MacBook. If you do then you don't have a virus.

You could speed it up by adding more RAM depending on your model. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report in 10.7).When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.
