Figured out my issue!

Background:

Win 7 64 bit

Itunes 10.5 public release

Iphone 4

Symptoms:

Iphone 4 backup/sync hanging

Itunes Store was blank

Fix:

Uninstalled AVG Family Safety (like net nanny, an online website monitoring app for my children)

ran command promt as administrator, typed netsh winsock reset

Rebooted

That fixed boy my backup and itunes store issue. My suggestion is if you have anything like this, Nortong Online Security, Net Nanny, AVG Family Safety, Safe Eyes, Covenant Eyes, etc. you should start by uninstalling it and see if it fixes your problems. Hope this helps someone.

I too have Windows 7 64-bit and I am experiencing the exact same problems described by others here, the iTunes store does not load (the bar gets to half-way and seems to stop leaving me with a blank window), can't connect to my iPod Touch. I have tried uninstalling (following the recommended order of uninstalls) and reinstalling multiple times, and I have also tried the winsock reset to no avail. I have Bescure Online installed and after reading the post from maxfromraleigh I checked their website and found this in the Bsecure Online Knowledge Base:

"Apple released iTunes v.10.5 on October11, 2011. This version appears to conflict with many internet security programs, including Bsecure. Although we don't have a solution to this conflict, we suggest that you try performing a system restore to before Apple released the iTunes update. If you need assistance with performing a system restore.

If the system restore does not resolve your issue & you would like to try going back to the previous version of iTunes, please contact Apple Care for assistance. With the number of programs having this conflict, Apple Care should also have more information for you as to what theyare doing to resolve this issue."

It looks like this may be my issue. I'm going to try disable and if needed, uninstall Bescure this evening to see if either resolves the problem.

I had the same problems. Installed 10.5 and CPU usage jumped to 100% and iTunes Store wouldn't load and Safari would not connect. Someone else suggested and I tried this and

IT WORKED!

Go to Start / Accessories

Right-Click on Command Prompt

Click Run as Administrator

Type in "netsh winsock reset", without the quotes and hit Enter

Restart the computer.

I worked all the other fixes for hours before I tried this and this did it for me.

Windows XP user. iTunes 10.5. Tried the "uninstall in this order and reinstall" fix to no avail. Just did the netsh winsock reset both manually and again using Microsoft Fix it. Didn't work for me. This is beyond frustrating.

Any other advice?

Can't backup, sync, or update any of my devices to iOS5...or use my computer with iTunes. This is unbelieveable.

Japiohelp, you are an absolute star!!! Been battling with this for days and beginning to think that I'd need to ask the dreaded Apple support team.

My problems with 10.5 were:

Power hungry

No Apple store on iTunes

iPad would not back up

Your fix worked first time.

Don't know where you are but I owe you a drink, and perhaps my sanity!

Final note, you'd think Apple would have "owned" this problem. Not impressed!
