Nov 17, 2011 12:34 AM in response to anthaeus1964by Marcellus1962,I was having a similar problem: processors being hogged by itunes, mdcrashreporttool and modiledeviceservice. Did the astonishingly simple winsock reset thing, and guess what: problem solved. Thanks a lot guys!

Nov 19, 2011 11:55 AM in response to anthaeus1964by Bonbooka,I was having the same problem as most of the people who posted: iTunes.exe & APSDaemon.exe combined using 100% of cpu, iTunes store not loading. I also have NetNanny (6.5.8.28) installed.
The solution for me was to add iTunes.exe and APSDaemon.exe to the NetNanny application exclusion list. After adding both of these, iTunes is working fine and CPU utilization is normal.

Nov 19, 2011 2:39 PM in response to anthaeus1964by Eric et famille,Same for me. CPU was @ 100% when I started ITunes and Itunes store was noty loading. Problem was with NetNanny. Added itunes.exe and APSDaemon.exe to the applications exceptions list and problem is solved.
Thanks Bonbooka

Nov 20, 2011 4:51 PM in response to jamesfromtroyby Robert Bogart1,Tried the article. Cannot find out how to remove the two top entries in the protocol list, or identify the source. Says cwProvider over ....
Also the reset of winsock does not help.
All other symptoms are as indicated in other posts. Used 100% of CPU, won't go to itunes store, windows xp sp3. Worked just fine on earlier versions of itunes.
Asked for help from Apple via email. Got crap back.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Nov 20, 2011 7:21 PM in response to MAP_Dallasby yispol,I also have Covenant Eyes and I can not access the Itunes store. All I get is the bar says "accessing Itunes store" and then stops half way. How have you found that CE is interfering with Itunes?

Nov 23, 2011 5:57 PM in response to anthaeus1964by Pokermanic,Check to see if you have PCTools spyware doctor installed on your machine. Was having the exact same problem. CPU maxed, couldn't sync iPhone or backup. Spyware doctor wasn't even active. Uninstalled Spyware Doc and rebooted. Everything is back to working. Hope this help you.

Nov 24, 2011 12:56 PM in response to japiohelpby elchasqui88,Running on Windows 7 and started to have the 100CPu problem after the last 10.5.1 update. Tried your suggestion after trying several other things for a couple of days and many installs and reinstalls of itunes. Your suggestion is the only one that fixed the problem. Thanks!!!

Nov 24, 2011 4:24 PM in response to elchasqui88by Robert Bogart1,I do not have either of those applications. I was able to get my computer to work ok by going back to itunes 10.3. I had the 100% cpu issue with 10.5 but it works just fine and uses less than 5% cpu with 10.3. Odd. Everything else is the same except the version of itunes.

Nov 28, 2011 2:33 PM in response to anthaeus1964by bryan270,Same issue here both on Windows 7 64 bit... and Windows 7 32 bit... I'm sick of hearing uninstall and re-install... as with most of the people here that isn't a solution.
This has gone beyond ridiculous! I've been an apple fan for years now... and this is a massive let down coupled with the battery life issue which is still raging with most iPhone users!
COME ON APPLE!! GET YOUR CRAP TOGETHER!! SERIOUS!!

Nov 28, 2011 2:45 PM in response to anthaeus1964by tonitiger7,My fix ended up being to uninstall my filter Safe Eyes. At least Safe Eyes company said they were working on a patch for something that is really Apple's problem. After uninstalling Safe Eyes, CPU dropped down to 6%. So you might want to check other filters like Bsafe, Covenant Eyes and Net Nanny and see if they are conflicting with iTunes.

Dec 1, 2011 4:37 PM in response to jamesfromtroyby Blake1960,The apple fix yielded no fruit. No LSPs in the network protocol listings. I just opened task manager and killed the offending process, "APSdaemon.exe" and all is fine. Running Win XP SP3. If it keeps happening, I'll try the winsock reset for a permanent fix.
Lame job there Apple. Very disappionting.

Dec 4, 2011 11:43 PM in response to anthaeus1964by boiled_elephant,Same problem on 10.5, Windows 7 64-bit. Reinstallation didn't work, but resetting winsock seems to have worked fine. Many thanks to japiohelp for that one.

Dec 6, 2011 2:43 PM in response to anthaeus1964by choddo,Yeah same problem here - had to get rid of NetNanny.
I hadn't even noticed until I needed to make a change to my account as I don't tend to use the Store from my PC and iTunes has always been so horribly slow it didn't seem to make any difference. But now I remember I had to update my phone to iOS5 on the wife's Mac though. Now I realise why!
Funny thing is I only had to fix the account so I could score a movie on my ATV. Now it's too late to watch it so Apple doesn't get my money
