Oct 13, 2011 10:03 AM in response to japiohelpby marconielsen,Wow, the "netsh winsock reset" and reboot solved my problem on Windows 7. I have been dealing with this since one of the beta releases of iTunes 10.5 a few months ago and not sure what it was..
Saved me from re-imaging a laptop.. :-)

Oct 13, 2011 10:08 AM in response to anthaeus1964by tarpalantir,Follow up on my post above regarding Win 7, 32 bit running Covenant Eyes.
Unistalled Covenant Eyes and it's working fine. I'm going to do the iOS 5 update before I try reinstalling CE.
Thanks to all who commented, especially those who saw the same symptoms with other monitoring software.

Oct 13, 2011 11:50 AM in response to anthaeus1964by mkiitmr2,Figured out my issue!
Background:
Win 7 64 bit
Itunes 10.5 public release
Iphone 4
Symptoms:
Iphone 4 backup/sync hanging
Itunes Store was blank
Fix:
Uninstalled AVG Family Safety (like net nanny, an online website monitoring app for my children)
ran command promt as administrator, typed netsh winsock reset
Rebooted
That fixed boy my backup and itunes store issue. My suggestion is if you have anything like this, Nortong Online Security, Net Nanny, AVG Family Safety, Safe Eyes, Covenant Eyes, etc. you should start by uninstalling it and see if it fixes your problems. Hope this helps someone.
Erik

Oct 13, 2011 1:03 PM in response to maxfromraleighby bconner34,I too have Windows 7 64-bit and I am experiencing the exact same problems described by others here, the iTunes store does not load (the bar gets to half-way and seems to stop leaving me with a blank window), can't connect to my iPod Touch. I have tried uninstalling (following the recommended order of uninstalls) and reinstalling multiple times, and I have also tried the winsock reset to no avail. I have Bescure Online installed and after reading the post from maxfromraleigh I checked their website and found this in the Bsecure Online Knowledge Base:
"Apple released iTunes v.10.5 on October11, 2011. This version appears to conflict with many internet security programs, including Bsecure. Although we don't have a solution to this conflict, we suggest that you try performing a system restore to before Apple released the iTunes update. If you need assistance with performing a system restore.
If the system restore does not resolve your issue & you would like to try going back to the previous version of iTunes, please contact Apple Care for assistance. With the number of programs having this conflict, Apple Care should also have more information for you as to what theyare doing to resolve this issue."
It looks like this may be my issue. I'm going to try disable and if needed, uninstall Bescure this evening to see if either resolves the problem.

Previous fix is now not solving the problem in the 10.5 update.
You are useless, Apple.

Oct 13, 2011 1:35 PM in response to anthaeus1964by ProvenKick,I had the same problems. Installed 10.5 and CPU usage jumped to 100% and iTunes Store wouldn't load and Safari would not connect. Someone else suggested and I tried this and
IT WORKED!
Go to Start / Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt
Click Run as Administrator
Type in "netsh winsock reset", without the quotes and hit Enter
Restart the computer.
I worked all the other fixes for hours before I tried this and this did it for me.

Oct 13, 2011 8:46 PM in response to bconner34by bconner34,I have deleted Bsecure and iTunes is now working properly. I can access the iTunes Store and I have been able to update my iPod Touch to iOS 5. I will try reinstalling Bsecure in the next couple of days to see if the problems return. Hopefully Apple will fix these issues with security/monitoring programs soon.

Oct 14, 2011 10:25 AM in response to Moosewanger1by LorangeJuice,Windows XP user. iTunes 10.5. Tried the "uninstall in this order and reinstall" fix to no avail. Just did the netsh winsock reset both manually and again using Microsoft Fix it. Didn't work for me. This is beyond frustrating.
Any other advice?
Can't backup, sync, or update any of my devices to iOS5...or use my computer with iTunes. This is unbelieveable.

Oct 14, 2011 1:33 PM in response to japiohelpby davfromclarkston,Japiohelp, you are an absolute star!!! Been battling with this for days and beginning to think that I'd need to ask the dreaded Apple support team.
My problems with 10.5 were:
Power hungry
No Apple store on iTunes
iPad would not back up
Your fix worked first time.
Don't know where you are but I owe you a drink, and perhaps my sanity!
Final note, you'd think Apple would have "owned" this problem. Not impressed!
