Seeing the .mobilebackups Folder

Is there anyway in OS X 10.7.x to see the contents of the .mobilebackups folder- I have even tried opening it from terminal as the root user, but it still wouldn't let me see the contents of the folder. Thank you.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

depends if you have it anyway. As far as I know, you will only have this folder if you have the following conditions


a) Portable

b) time machine is turned on but couldn't reach the backup drive so created a local snapshot

It should be located in /Volumes


If you are already seeing it, then mount that folder then drag it to the sidebar of the finder.
